Miss Galaxy Australia now shooting for the stars in Florida

A silent battle with endometriosis and fibromyalgia ended Brooke Murray’s initial career ambitions but by embracing her body’s challenges she found other ways to shine on the global stage.

Her confidence is sky-high as Brooke Murray shoots for the stars in a beauty queen battle.

The exercise physiologist was crowned Miss Galaxy Australia earlier this month and will attempt to be crowned Miss Galaxy International in Florida in August.

The 27-year-old will be judged on criteria including her ability to be photogenic, an interview and her fashion wear.

But her talents are much more than just skin deep.

Ms Murray said her silent battle with endometriosis and fibromyalgia – which put a stop to her dreams of being a dancer – had led her to find a different way to shine on stage.

“I loved my dancing but my body and my health had other ideas, and that led me to really wanting to create and find more of a purpose in my life,” Ms Murray said.

“Advocating for invisible illnesses – not just through my lived experience but through my career as well – is something that I am incredibly passionate about.

“If I can help just one person to not feel the way I did, whether that’s through improving health literacy or someone hearing my story and feeling a little bit less alone.”

Ms Murray also fundraises for mental health charities and volunteers in her community.

And it’s her prep work focusing on her local community and giving back which Ms Murray feels could help seal the win.

“I did a lot of volunteering hours, community service, created some resources … and a lot of mentoring,” she said.

If she takes out the title, she will land Australia a historic triple triumph in the Miss Galaxy International competition, with the 2024 and 2017 winners also from Australia.
