The organisers behind Yarraman’s biggest event of the year plan to double its attendance in 2025.
More than 1300 people packed out the Yarraman Showgrounds for the annual Show and Shine day on June 22, which featured more than 200 vintage and historic vehicles and bikes from across Queensland.
Co-organiser and president of the Yarraman and District Progress Association Rob Mackie said the event, in its second year under the stewardship of the group, had delivered major flow-on effects for local businesses.
“It is the biggest event, it’s been running for a few years — this was our second year running it, but it used to be run by the business group and they’d get about 40 to 50 cars,” he said.
“We’ve upped the ante by moving it to the showgrounds and all the businesses benefited from it.
“When you get reports that the bakery had to put six staff on, the Yarraman Motel was fully booked out Friday and Saturday nights, the eateries also enjoyed strong trade, that shows it’s successful.”
Mr Mackie said the 2025 event, slated for June 21-22, would run over two days in a bid to double attendance figures.
“We’re looking at 2000 next year, we’re going to go bigger, that’s our goal,” he said.
“We’re running it over two days, so we’ll do cars and bikes one day, and trucks on the second day.
“I’ll apply for a couple of decent grants and try to get (one grant scheme) worth $35,000, so we can put a lot more on.”
Planning is already under way for the Yarraman Festival, which will be held at Yarraman Station Park on August 3 from 10am.
