Residents are being encouraged to celebrate the region’s natural landmarks and take part in special activities during Parks Week this month.

Held from March 6, TRC environment and community Cr Tim McMahon said the week-long event recognised the region’s outstanding selection of parks.

“With 362 parks and 566 open spaces in total, it’s no wonder we’re known as the Garden City,” Cr McMahon said.

“From dog-friendly parks to parks with water features and exercise equipment, we have a park for every occasion.

“There are a number of fantastic and low-cost options to use the parks within our Region and rather than going to your regular park, we’re encouraging residents to see what other parks are out there.

“While spring is often seen as a great time to celebrate our parks, there is also something special about this time of year.”

To encourage residents to visit one of the many parks in March, Cr McMahon said a wide range of activities had been planned.

“Parks and open spaces are a valuable resource in our region and help support physical and mental wellbeing through healthy and active lifestyles,” he said.

“Activities offered this Parks Week include fitness classes for adults and kids, walking groups, parkrun and much more.”

Have your say in the city's future

To further celebrate the Region’s parks, there is a photo competition open to the community for the month of March.

Visit one of the region’s parks and send in a photo of you and/or your family to change@tr.qld.gov.au, telling us what your favourite park is and why to go into the draw to win a Picnic Park pack valued at $170.
