The Wire, John Wick star Lance Reddick’s cause of death revealed

The Wire star Lance Reddick was in the middle of promoting the latest John Wick film when he died suddenly at his home in California.

Lance Reddick’s cause of death has been revealed.

The late Wire star had two heart conditions: ischaemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, according to his death certificate obtained by TMZ.

Ischaemia is a condition in which blood flow and oxygen is restricted or reduced in a part of the body, per the American Heart Association.

Arteriosclerosis, meanwhile, occurs when “blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the rest of the body become thick and stiff”, sometimes restricting blood flow to the organs and tissues, according to the Mayo Clinic. The clots may trigger a heart attack or stroke.

Reddick was found dead on March 17 at his home in Studio City, California. He was 60 years old.

Law enforcement sources previously told TMZ that the actor died of “natural causes”.

Reddick’s death came at time in which he was still actively working and busy.

He was in the midst of a press tour for John Wick: Chapter 4, which was released in theatres on March 23.

In one of his final interviews, Reddick called his co-stars Keanu Reeves and Ian McShane his “family”.

“You see, with the three of us, it’s not just the family that you’re born into, but the family that you created and how much we really are family,” he said while sitting next to his castmates on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Reddick played the role of Charon — a hotel concierge and old acquaintance of John Wick — for nearly 10 years in the action movie franchise.

At the fourth film’s premiere, Reeves, 58, honoured his late friend by wearing a blue ribbon.

The Speed star also said of Reddick on the red carpet: “He was a beautiful person, a special artist [and] a man of grace and dignity [with] such a passion for his craft.

“To have had the chance to work with him over the 10 years and four films [in the franchise] is something very special to me. It f – king sucks he’s not here.”
