Superhero black comedy The Boys is expanding its universe.

The hit Prime Video series’ third spin-off was unveiled during its panel presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, with the news Jensen Ackles (aka Soldier Boy) and Aya Cash (Stormfront) will lead the prequel series, Vought Rising.

It will focus on the origins of the corrupt, multi-billion dollar superhero entertainment conglomerate which is at the centre of The Boys.

“It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical manoeuvres of a ‘Supe’ known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought,” executive producers Eric Kripke and Paul Grellong explained in a statement.

“We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.”

Both Ackles and Cash will also serve as producers, with Ackles sharing the news in person during The Boys panel on Friday, and Cash appearing in a prerecorded video.

It will be the third spin-off of the quirky superhero action series.

Gen V focuses on the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, where young adult superheroes compete for the chance to join Vought’s elite team, and premiered last September.

Animated superhero anthology series The Boys Presents: Diabolical premiered in March 2022.

The announcement about Vought Rising comes off the back of news that the next season of The Boys, its fifth, will be the last.

Season four premiered on Prime Video last month and consists of eight episodes.
