MasterChef dish leaves judge Andy Allen speechless: ‘Oh my God’

“Oh my God”: An unexpected moment during the lamb challenge left Andy Allen unable to even speak during tonight’s episode of MasterChef.

MasterChef dish leaves judge speechless

Things are set to really heat up on tonight’s episode of MasterChef Australia, with a contestant’s insanely spicy dish rendering one judge literally speechless.

In a preview clip, Brent Draper can be seen offering a mild warning to Melissa Leong, Jock Zonfrillo and Andy Allen before they taste his Asian-style lamb dish, admitting it has “a bit of a bite” before getting more specific: “Andy … Just be careful, mate.”

Leong takes on the role of serving up the accompaniments, loading up the trio’s tasting plates – with extra chilli sauce for Andy’s portion.

“That looks tame,” he jokes, as she pushes it toward him.

However, his next words are left to evaporate into the air, with Andy struggling to even speak after biting into the clearly very spicy dish.

His face getting hotter by the second, the Three Blue Ducks owner has to bend down as he tries to work through the heat – while Jock and Melissa burst into giggles.

“You’ve stopped him in his tracks, look at him!” Jock laughed, adding: “Andy and chilli are the two funniest things ever.”

Despite his struggles, Andy is still clearly impressed by the flavours presented in Brent’s dish.

“Oh my god,” he begins, while still having trouble getting words out.

“Brent. It’s really good, mate.”

The chilli encounter comes just weeks after Andy was forced to defend himself after a former contestant criticised him over his judging style, describing his critiques as “incredibly frustrating.”

MasterChef: Back to Win competitor Chris Badenoch told news.com.au in 2020 that he was left underwhelmed by Andy’s feedback during the season.

“It’s not feedback, it’s just a collection of words that make no sense,” Badenoch said at the time.

“He’s commented on things that I’ve cooked and when he’s walked away it’s like, ‘I have no idea what he said or what he meant.’ You almost need subtitles. I don’t get it!

“Jock [Zonfrillo] or Melissa [Leong] will give you a good critique … [but Andy] it’s not constructive.

“It’s like a Trump speech; a whole lot of words that don’t match.”

Responding to the brutal assessment on news.com.au’s podcast I’ve Got News For You, Andy sounded slightly amused.

“Wow, first time I’ve been compared to Trump, how good,” he laughed.

“Look, when I was a contestant, it was your job to really be able to understand and piece together the critiques [from the judges]. It’s part of the learning process.

“If Chris just wants to stand there and say that he couldn’t understand it, well, I mean, I’m sorry mate, but that’s your problem.

“Honestly, if there’s one contestant out of all of the contestants that I’ve critiqued over the last four years and everyone else seem to be happy, I think he might be the odd one out,” Allen said.

MasterChef continues tonight at 7.30pm on Ten.
