James Weir recaps Married At First Sight episode 16: Husband shocks with ‘females’ remark

One remark has elicited a shocked gasp from inside the room on MAFS. And no: it’s not another C-word scandal. James Weir recaps.

Shocking MAFS husband's remark leaving everyone stunned

A Married At First Sight husband takes a shot at “you females” during Wednesday’s boozy dinner party before attempting to negotiate a wife swap — a move that leaves everyone looking more shocked than that intruder groom with the incredibly smooth forehead.

Also tonight, a new villain enters the scene: a plate of meat.

It’s not surprising. Everyone knows there’s nothing more treacherous than a serving of sizzling wagyu.

Adrian’s still miffed he got snubbed from a cast photoshoot. And his diva demand that he be featured on the cover of TV Week magazine (or else he’ll quit) has not been met by producers.

The fledgling starlet tosses his feather boa over a shoulder, jumps in his limousine and hightails it to the cocktail party where he plans on causing a scene. En route, he decides to get the drama started by texting his wife Awhina to tell her he had a secret dinner with Sierah.

Cue mass destruction.

The Married At First Sight producers know the key to great storytelling is light and shade. So while we’re watching lives fall apart, we also need a moment of hopefulness. This is delivered when divorced couple Lauren and Smelliot are blindsided by each other’s reappearance in the experiment with new partners — and Lauren tells her former husband that his BO has improved.

“You smell better than before,” she says.

It’s marvellous what a few spritzes of Joop can achieve.

Then, over dinner, Lauren informs Eliot’s new wife Veronica of his bad behaviour.

“You said you had to charge your laptop and that was one of the reasons why you were leaving,” she says, detailing how Eliot dumped her 48 hours after their wedding. “Also you wanted someone who was 25. You said you didn’t want a girl that likes handbags. You also said I wasn’t into fitness enough because I only go to the gym once a week.”

Lauren’s new husband Clint starts throwing F-words around.

“That’s f**ked, you’re f**ked,” he tells Eliot.

Eliot, always the dignified gentleman, then takes a dig at Clint’s rather, erm, smooth visage. He calls Clint “a stunned mullet” before adopting a zany voice and doing his best impersonation.

While we don’t endorse Eliot, we do endorse the impersonation. Remember: Married At First Sight is a complex and nuanced program where two things can be true at the same time.

Jacqui decides it’s time for an urgent change of topic.

“Ryan, take this as an opportunity to say some nice things about me,” she says, interrupting the conversation. “Ten things you like about me — go!”

Ryan’s response comes from the bottom of his heart.

“We … take good photos together?” he shrugs.

Billy can’t believe everyone’s ignoring the biggest issue of the night.

“There’s one thing we need to address — the elephant in the room,” he declares.

Finally! Someone’s gonna bring it up: what’s goin’ on with Paul’s hairline? It’s like Count Von Count tried colouring in his widow’s peak with a Texta.

Apparently, this is not the big issue Billy’s referring to. He throws the spotlight over to Awhina.

“Adrian left because he wasn’t included in the promo,” she tells everyone. “And he went out to dinner with another person’s partner. He had dinner with Sierah.”

Adrian has learnt a thing or two by watching previous seasons of MAFS and he knows exactly how to respond.

“You’re gaslighting!” he accuses his wife.

This one word sets her off.

“That’s strong language!” she yells. “Did everyone hear him say that I gaslit him?”

Morena, who now only talks in a whisper after being shamed for screaming, quietly defends Awhina.

“She’s never done that,” she murmurs.

Then Adrian decides to issue a bold remark.

“You females deflect everything,” he says.

There’s a collective gasp around the table: you females?!

“What, I can’t talk?” Adrian defends himself.

Awhina scoffs. “You can’t talk? That’s a joke.”

It’s a joke but it’s also a fact. The guy communicates in mumbles. He really can’t talk.

Awhina turns to Sierah. “I haven’t even had a chance to say how f**kin’ mad I am. You lied to me all day.”

Sierah is ready to present her defence.

“We shared a plate of meat,” she states.

News.com.au has approached the plate of meat for comment but it did not wish to participate in this story.

Billy then decides to zone in on Adrian and it backfires in more ways than one.

“Billy! Don’t you come at me, bro! Don't you come at me, bro!” Adrian mumbles. “Billy, what about when you called me and said, ‘Do you wanna do a wife swap?’”

The table lets out a collective “WHOOOOAAAA!”

“We’re now bartering our chattels?” expert Mel Schilling cringes while watching the mess unfold on the CCTV cameras in the dungeon.

Oh Schill, pay attention. This is not the first time on MAFS a husband has tried to negotiate the sale of his wife to another groom.

“I’ll openly admit I said that because I was fuming with what I heard,” Billy says.

While this twist is meant to be shocking, it lacks oomph because we really don’t believe Billy would’ve seriously suggested trading Sierah. And if he had, my boyfriend Dave would’ve told me.

Sierah storms off and Adrian follows. As the other freaks glare at them, Adrian leans in close with a suggestion.

Should we just do a wife swap? See if they like it tomorrow. We should f**kin’ do it. F**k them both,” he mumbles.

Only one thing is for sure: that plate of meat has a lot to answer for.
