Hughesy and Kate back together again for reality TV gig on Celebrity Gogglebox

There was laughter - and tears - as former long-term radio hosts Hughesy and Kate teamed up for a special reality TV gig.

Hughesy reveals devastating family news on air

Dave “Hughesy” Hughes has reunited with his former long-term work wife Kate Langbroek for a special TV gig.

The pair – who co-hosted Melbourne brekkie radio together for 18 years – are hopping on the couch with a host of other stars for a one-off special edition of Gogglebox Australia to help raise awareness for online youth mental health service ReachOut Australia.

Langbroek was a late call-up to replace Hughes’ real-life wife Holly Ife, who was content to be cooking cupcakes in the background.

“My daughter (Tess) thought that the show would work better with Katie and me,” Hughesy explains.

“And my wife insisted she didn’t want to do it. My wife says she’s not a celebrity and that she has no desire to be a celebrity.

“I don’t understand how people don’t want to be celebrities. So it didn’t ruin my marriage, it enhanced it.”

Langbroek adds: “(Holly’s) complete lack of ego balances out Hughesy’s.”

It wasn’t all laughs – there was a poignant moment when the pair brought out a picture of Hughes’ mum Carmel - who passed away just a few weeks ago - to “sit” with them in front of the TV so she could watch her beloved Collingwood win the AFL Grand Final again.

“It was very companionable, beautiful, life-affirming and everything,” Langbroek shares.
