Tracy Grimshaw took her earpiece out and turned away from the cameras as one emotional clip of herself was replayed for viewers during Nine’s live coverage of the Queen’s funeral.

The longtime A Current Affair host, who will leave the show in November, is in London reporting on the Queen’s funeral and on Friday, was granted access to pay her respects to the Queen’s coffin.

In a clip that soon went viral, a visibly emotional Grimshaw spoke to cameras outside to rexplain what she’d experienced inside Westminster Hall.

Wiping away tears, Grimshaw said:

“I was going to come out and be all journalistic and give you all the history of the building and the history of the Queen’s association with that building but I’m not going to do that. I’m going to take a moment.

“After all these years and she’s still doing her duty,” she contined, referring to the late monarch as she fought back tears. “And I really think she’d just like to get back to her husband.”

The footage was viewed far and wide over the weekend, and as Nine replayed the emotional moment on-air today, Grimshaw’s co-presenter Peter Overton told viewers she couldn’t bring herself to watch it back.

“Tracy, that was beautiful... You can put your earpiece back in! I can tell you at home that Tracy didn’t look at a frame of that, she looked at Westminster Abbey. She had her earpiece out so she couldn’t hear the audio. Clearly still most moved by the experience, and you’ve seen some things in your journalistic career,” he told her.

Grimshaw once more choked back tears as she told viewers why she couldn’t watch the emotional moment back.

“I haven’t watched it since the night, and if I listen to it or watch it, it’ll set me off again. I didn’t want that, because we’ve got a lot of work to do over the next few hours, and you don’t need me blubbing every couple of minutes!” she said.

Elsewhere in Nine’s coverage of the funeral, Overton and Grimshaw suffered an awkward flub when they were both momentarily unable to identify the UK’s new Prime Minister Liz Truss as she arrived for the funeral. The pair guessed she must be a “minor royal” before they were informed that they were looking at Britain’s new political leader.
