Controversial dating series FBoy Island premieres and one crude comment sets off contestants

A new dating series has flipped the script on dating programs – and it has already ruffled some of the contestants feathers on the show.

The below article contains spoilers on Episode 1 and 2 of FBoy Island Australia.

Women who aren’t pitted against other women on a reality TV dating show. In the words of the great American philosopher Lizzo, it’s about damn time!

Binge’s new reality series FBoy Island Australia premiered on Monday and the show flips the script on dating programs.

The premise is as the title suggests: three women are placed on an island with 24 men and they must separate the self-proclaimed F**k Boys from the Nice Guys.

The challenge lies in trying to decipher who’s who, but it’s only after the man is eliminated each week that the women and viewers learn if he was an FBoy or a Nice Guy.

If the ladies choose one of the Nice Guys at the end of the 10-episode series, they get to split $50,000 with him (and potentially sail off into the sunset together).

Pick an FBoy and they can pretty much say FBye to the money as he gets to pash-and-dash out of there.

Coming in hot as host is Abbie Chatfield, who spots an Fboy in the dating pool straight off the bat after he throws a flirty one-liner her way. But given her seasoned appearances on The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise, it’s nothing Abbie can’t handle.

Besides, she’s too busy making jokes about sausages, tacos and “wristies” to care (more on that later).

The first two eps just dropped on Binge, so if you’ve not seen Episode 1 and 2, then perhaps bookmark this page to read for later. Otherwise, let’s all gather around our watercoolers because here are the highlights from the eps.

The ‘Meat Gala’

You’ve heard of the Met Gala (read: swanky annual fashion event in New York), but have you heard of the ‘Meat Gala’? Or according to Abbie, an event where “24 sausages and three tacos” congregate.

The three women in the dating driver’s seat are Molly O’Halloran, 26, Sophie Blackley, also 26, and Ziara Rae, 21, and they get to meet-and-greet the men at a swanky mixer at their villa – which, side note, is shaped like a penis. Yep, this is certainly no Bachelor mansion, as Abbie can attest.

Besides, here roses aren’t given out but rather wristbands, or as Abbie calls them, “wristies”. Score a wristband from one of the ladies and you get guaranteed a one-on-one chat with her.

The girls already eye their frontrunners and line up first dates with them: Molly has butterflies around construction manager Nick; Sophie crushes on carpenter Joshy; and Ziara chases waterfalls with emergency officer Darcy. Literally. They went on a date to a waterfall.

It was a slippery slope for professional basketballer Cory back at the mansion as he seethes with jealousy over Ziara’s date with Darcy, his roommate.

Cory confronts Darcy when he returns from his date, as he’s convinced he is an FBoy with bad intentions towards Ziara.

The pair almost come to blows as Cory orders Darcy to pack his backs and find another room. The scene got so heated, producers were forced to intervene to separate the two.

Crude comment called out

A few good men do exist. A comment made by evident FBoy Caleb is called out by a group of men with personal trainer Sean and Cory leading the way.

The comment stems from Molly’s confession that her ex-fiancé cheated on her with an escort in the lead up to their wedding.

In typical FBoy fashion, Caleb concludes that Molly is to blame for her fiancé straying because she probably “aint got no good p*ssy”. Yep, verbatim.

The stand-up men tell Caleb that comment is victim-blaming and straight-up disrespectful, but their criticism doesn’t register as Caleb says he is simply stating “facts”.

When the elimination ceremony rolls around, Sophie and Ziara eliminate two men without much fanfare. But Molly’s monologue gets cut short by Sean, who raises his hand to hint that Caleb has been bad mouthing her.

Sean does not reveal the vile comment Caleb said about Molly, who put Caleb and Nick up for elimination. Why she chose Caleb to stay over Nick – who turns out to be a Nice Guy – remains to be seen. Until episode 2.

In the second episode, Molly explains why she gave Nick the boot.

It’s all mind-boggling as Nick’s date with Molly goes smoothly – camel rides, magic carpets and drinks by the beach – but one comment he makes unravelled it all.

When she asks him if he could help her spot the FBoys, he declines and casually throws the old cliché her way: “Bros before hoes.”

Nice guys trying to pretend to be down with the players? Not cool.

Sly dig at other dating shows

Elsewhere in Episode 2, Abbie pays homage to the classic single dates shown on most reality TV shows. You know, the one that made us cringe … or change the channel.

First up, is the chocolate bath that features on Ziara and Cory’s single date.

Reality TV fans may get flashbacks to Richie Strahan’s season on The Bachelor when he took contestant Alex Nation to his Bach mansion, where they bathed in a slimy tub filled with chocolate.

Later, Abbie plays third wheel on Molly and Sean’s first single date. The host plays referee – stopwatch and all – as she times them for the World’s Longest Kiss.

Molly is up for the challenge as she believes a sure-fire way to tell is someone if an FBoy is how he kisses. Bad kisser? Nice Guy. Bad kisser? FBoy. Turns out, Sean is the later which leads Molly to wonder if he is a baddie masquerading as a baddie. He also conveniently had Chapstick in his pocket, which he applies before going in for the kill.

At the elimination ceremony later in the episode, the women unknowingly send home two more nice guys and one FBoy. Abbie points out that another two Nice Guys are out of the mix, meaning there are now more FBoys than Nice Guys in the villas.

“Us girls have got to be better at this or we’re screwed,” says Molly. The pressure’s on!
