Charmed stars Rose McGowan, Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty reunite at 90s Con

More than 20 years after it first premiered, the cast of the hit ’90s supernatural drama series have reunited – but with one major absence.

The cast of the ’90s supernatural drama series Charmed have reunited, more than 20 years after the series first premiered.

Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs joined series regulars Brian Krause, Dorian Gregory and Drew Fuller on the panel at 90s Con in Connecticut over the weekend, where they took part in a Q&A.

Notably absent was Alyssa Milano, who appeared as a main character from the premiere episode right through until the series’ end.

However, despite not being there herself, she took to social media to praise the Charmed reunion.

“This makes me happy for the OG Charmed fans. What a gift! #90sconvention”, she wrote, alongside a picture of Doherty, McGowan and Combs.

The original Charmed series ran from 1998 until 2006 and told the story of sisters Phoebe, Piper and Prue Halliwell – played by Doherty, Combs and Milano – who discover they’re witches and are tasked with regularly fighting evil in a bid to save the world.

Doherty left fans devastated by her abrupt departure from the show after season three, when her character, Prue, was killed off and replaced with the arrival of a new sister, Paige (played by McGowan).

It was widely speculated at the time that Doherty’s decision came amid intense cast feuds, with the 90210 alum seemingly confirming the reports in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2001.

“There was too much drama on the set and not enough passion for the work,” she told the outlet.

Last year, Milano opened up about the tensions between them, admitting she took “could take responsibility” for her part in it.

“I think a lot of our struggle came from feeling that I was in competition rather than it being that sisterhood that the show was so much about. And I have some guilt about my part in that,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

The actress also revealed that the pair are now “cordial” after reconnecting amid Doherty’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2015.

Theirs wasn’t the only on set drama, either: in 2018, more than 20 years after the series ended, McGowan – who publicly accused Harvey Weinstein of sexually assaulting her – slammed Milano amid the #MeToo movement.

McGowan branded her former co-star’s involvement with the initiative “a lie” during an interview with Nightline.

Milano responded with a statement, insisting she was “completely supportive” of McGowan.

“I am and always have been completely supportive of Rose and admire her bravery and speaking out about her experiences,” she told the program.

“My goal throughout the past few months with both #MeToo and the TimesUp movement has been to use my platform to give others a voice so we can all work together to stamp out sexual harassment and sexual assault.”

Months later, Milano spoke about her former colleague’s public criticism to Us Weekly.

“(I don’t) see that as the same thing as hate,” she said.

“I see that as a beautiful soul that was hurting so badly that she was talking from that hurt. And I understand.”

Meanwhile, McGowan appears to have remained close with her other co-star, Holly Marie Combs.

In February, she posted a selfie of the two of them, captioning it: “I really love my Charmed co-star Holly Marie Combs. This juman means a lot to me. Blessed be forever!”
