THE first trailer for the upcoming Jumanji sequel is here, and as you’d expect for a film attempting to follow up a beloved 90s Robin Williams family classic, reaction is ... mixed.

Arriving 22 years after the original 1995 hit, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle tells the tale of a group of four unruly teens forced by their teacher to clean out the school’s basement. There, they uncover ‘Jumanji’ — now an oh-so-90s retro video game, rather than the original film’s board game.

As soon as they’ve selected their four characters, the teens are sucked into the world of the video game, where they now inhabit the bodies of their respective avatars, played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan.

From there, they battle all manner of wild animals and mysterious masked motorcycle bandits, helped along the way by Nick Jonas for some reason.

Look, it seems fine — but this first look at the film was always going to attract mixed reviews from a generation of filmgoers still mourning the loss of the original movie’s scene-stealing star.

If you think you can bear to see a Robin Williams-free Jumanji film, Welcome to the Jungle is set for release in December.
