Was a fan theory about Taylor Swift and Anne Hathaway just confirmed?

It looks like the fan theory that Taylor Swift references a famous A-lister in ‘All Too Well’ might have just been confirmed.

Taylor Swift fans react to Red: Taylor's Version release

Ever since Taylor Swift re-released her album Red, stans have been trying to puzzle out the identity of “some actor” mentioned in Swift’s 10-minute version of All Too Well — a song long believed to be about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal in 2010 when she was 20 and he was 29.

The 15-minute short film that accompanied the new release of the song stars Sadie Sink from Stranger Things as “Her”, Dylan O’Brien from Teen Wolf as “Him” and Swift herself as an older “Her”.

While Swift has been dodging questions about the characters, it does seem pretty clear that the “Her” and “Him” are her and Gyllenhaal.

Besides the internet’s calls to cancel Gyllenhaal, it’s also been consumed with trying to discover who Swift refers to in the line, “Not weeping in a party bathroom. Some actor asking me what happened, you. That’s what happened, you.”

Initial fan theories believed the actor was Jennifer Aniston, who reportedly told Swift to “hang in there” after the break-up at the 2011 People’s Choice Awards, according to the Daily Mail.

That theory was quickly stopped in its tracks after pop culture Instagram account, Deuxmoi, noticed that one of Aniston’s friends had commented on a post about the tea, writing in all caps: “NOT TRUE, PEOPLE!!! YOU HAVE THE WRONG ACTRESS!”

Swifties then turned their sights to Anne Hathaway, who worked with Gyllenhaal on Love And Other Drugs in 2010.

In a 2015 interview with Glamour UK, Hathaway said she met Swift for the first time when she was dating Gyllenhaal, stating: “She just seems to be following her heart.

“I met her — I hope it’s OK to say this — when she and Jake (Gyllenhaal) were together. She was 20 at the time and we hung out one night. I was like, ‘You are a magnificent creature.’ She was on fire and I’ve watched her become this force of nature.”

An anonymous source has apparently claimed to confirm this last theory, emailing Deuxmoi, with the gossip account then posting a screenshot to its Instagram stories.

“I have it on VERY VERY good authority that the All Too Well actor is Anne Hathaway (as has been speculated elsewhere, but you can consider it confirmed),” reads the email.

“AH totally knew how doomed they were and thought he was such a (eggplant emoji) for f’ing with her in the first place,” it continued.

Will we ever know for certain? Probably not, considering how tight-lipped Swift has been (outside of her art, anyway), but it’s a tasty tea to sip.
