A Taylor Swift fan went into labour during one of her concerts and refused to leave, despite experiencing painful contractions.
Tenille Smith was 39 weeks and five days pregnant on Saturday when headed to the Melbourne Cricket Ground for Swift’s second Australian show for the Eras Tour.
“39+5 and we’ve made it to Taylor Swift,” she captioned a photograph of her posing with friends, wearing metallic cowboy boots and a sequined bodycon dress.
Ms Smith said she started to feel what she thought were Braxton Hicks contractions earlier in the day but the night took a surprising turn when she started to feel some discomfort again during the concert.
“I thought, ‘I just gotta get through [to] midnight,” she told 3AW radio host Jacqui Felgate on Monday.
“It wasn’t until about halfway through the concert did I realise they were actually labour contractions.”
After fighting it out for tickets and waiting months to finally see Swift in the flesh, she decided to wait out her contractions and stay until the final song.
As fans flooded the exits, Ms Smith and her friends rushed to get out of the stadium and make the one-hour car ride to Mercy Hospital in Werribee.
She arrived at the hospital in “agony” at 1am and asked for a cervix exam, but was told she was only 2cm dilated.
“She goes to get me some Panadol, and she comes back [a few minutes] later, and I’ve given birth to her in the bathroom,” Ms Smith said.
Sloane Tayla Smith was born at 1.20am on Sunday – two hours after the concert ended.
“The perfect addition to our little family,” Ms Smith said in a post shared to Instagram.
The photo shows newborn Sloane wearing an adorable jumpsuit, bow headband a teeny tiny friendship bracelet wrapped around her wrist.
Ms Smith is not the only woman to go into labour during a concert of late, with US star P!nk stopping her concert mid-show to help a fan who started experiencing contractions at a Sydney show earlier this month.
