The lead singer of popular noughties band Aqua was seen at Sydney Domestic Airport just days after her onstage meltdown during a gig in Perth last week.
Lene Nystrom was spotted at the airport’s busy food court with her bandmates René Dif and Søren Rasted on Wednesday morning, and could be seen vaping among the diners.
The 50-year-old kept to casual in double denim and dark shades as she walked through the terminal, often stopping to take photos with fans.
It’s believed the Barbie Girl singers were on their way to Perth where they will perform at the RAC Arena on Thursday – the last stop on their Australian tour.
The Euro-pop band have been Down Under since earlier this month to headline the inaugural Mixtape Festival alongside the likes of fellow ‘00s bands including 2 Unlimited, East 17 and Big Brovaz.
But Nystrom’s antics last Thursday when they kicked off their Australian tour in Perth that have made headlines.
The lead singer, 50, alarmed concertgoers during the doomed performance that saw her disappear from the stage because of a “sound issue”.
“You could see that the main woman [Lene Nystrom] was taking her head piece out throughout the song but it didn’t seem like a big issue,” Mix94.5 producer Shelby Brady recounted the following morning on Perth breakfast radio program, Pete & Kymba.
“She walks off and she’s the lead singer so they have to continue without her.”
Shelby said the remaining singers were “floundering” before they also left the stage for an hour, leaving hundreds of concertgoers confused.
“It’s so awkward, nobody knows what’s happening,” the producer added. “They shut the bar so you couldn’t get drinks, there was nowhere to sit.
The band – who gave us hits such as Doctor Jones and Lollipop – pre-emerged about an hour later with fans noticing Nystrom had changed from her onstage outfit to her pyjamas.
“They come back on at 10pm. The lead female singer was wearing pleather before, she’s dressed out of that and she’s now in her actual pyjamas,” Brady said. “She was crying … heavy breathing for the whole time and that was for the entire hour performing.”
Host Kymba Cahill was empathised with Nystrom, suggesting she may have been having an “episode” and attempting to get through the performance.
“To me that sound’s like she’s having a bit of an episode,” Cahill said on-air.
“If you go from your tight pleather outfit and you’re off stage for an hour and you come back crying and in your pyjamas that indicates something has gone wrong. She’s not OK.”
