KYLIE’S JOY OVER GRAMMYS WIN

Minogue was not the only Aussie to pick up a Grammy before the ceremony kicked off.

Australian guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel won his first Grammy for his recording of the Johnny Cash classic Folsom Prison Blues.

Emmanuel and his collaborators, American trio The String Revolution, claimed the award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella.

Minogue’s win is the much-loved star’s second Grammy award and comes almost 20 years to the day she scooped her first gong from the Recording Academy.

Before the main broadcast got underway, it was revealed that Padam Padam had been awarded Best Pop Dance Recording, beating David Guetta, Calvin Harris and fellow Aussie Troye Sivan.

Minogue did not attend the pre-ceremony, with music producer Lostboy instead accepting the award.

But her joy was apparent in an ecstatic Instagram post that featured a video of the singer screaming with excitement when she was told of the award win.

The video showed Minogue in a bathrobe as she got ready for the awards.

When told by an assistant that was now a “two-time Grammy winner”, Minogue screamed and jumped for joy as she ran around her hotel room and clapped her hands in delight.

Minogue won her first Grammy in 2004, when Come Into My World secured the Best Dance Recording prize.

Earlier, Minogue dazzled on the red carpet at industry heavyweight Clive Davis’s pre-Grammys gala on Sunday, Australian time.

BILLIE EILISH SCORES PRE-GRAMMY WIN

The 2024 leading nominees SZA, Billie Eilish and the Barbie album are also among the early winners of the 2024 Grammys.

Eilish’s smash hit What Was I Made For? took out the Visual Media Song award while Barbie: The Album won Visual Media Compilation at the pre-televised awards ceremony.

Mirroring the Barbenheimer awards season tug-of-war, Oppenheimer composer Ludwig Goransson repeated his Golden Globes win with the Grammy for Visual Media Score.

R&B soul superstar SZA, who has nine nominations at this year’s Grammys, shared the Pop Duo/Group Performance gong with fellow multi-nominee Phoebe Bridgers for their collab Ghost In The Machine.

The 2024 Grammys will soon kick off with female artists set to dominate major categories including the top prize of Album of the Year.

Stars are starting to arrive at the venue, with

The majority of nominees for Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year are women, with Taylor Swift up against Eilish, SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa.

The ceremony will also feature some much-anticipated performances, with legendary artist Joni Mitchell singing at the ceremony for the first time.

U2’s performance will be broadcast live from Las Vegas’s new venue, the Sphere, while Billy Joel will perform his first single in almost two decades, Turn the Lights Back On.

Luke Combs will duet with Tracy Chapman on her classic song Fast Car, which he covered last year.

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards will kick off at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles from midday AEDT after the red carpet arrivals.

SWIFT, CYRUS GO HEAD TO HEAD

Revenge is a dish best served in a Grammy-winning song, as Swift and Cyrus go head-to-head at the 2024 awards with their musical middle-fingers to the ghosts of lovers past.

Swift and Cyrus are both frontrunners in predictions for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, with their monster hits Anti-Hero and Flowers.

Awards voters love setting up a historic moment so Swift is poised to become the first artist in Grammys history to win a fourth Album of the Year trophy for her 10th studio offering Midnights which has spent 66 weeks in the global charts.

Unfortunately her beau, NFL star Travis Kelce, won’t be attending due to his Super Bowl commitments.

The Grammys voters can be both boringly predictable and wildly shocking, with the voice of her generation Eilish and futuristic R & B star SZA among the artists many pundits in the US expect to be making acceptance speeches.

Eilish’s heartbreakingly beautiful Barbie hit What Was I Made For? has already won the Visual Media Song gong but is tipped to steal Song of the Year as well.

The Barbie soundtrack, helmed by hitmaker Mark Ronson, is almost certain to add to the Margot Robbie film’s cabinet of trophies with a Visual Media Compilation award.

SZA appears to be Swift’s strongest rival for Album of the Year with SOS, even if the Grammys academy remains notorious for overlooking brilliant R & B or hip-hop-flavoured albums in this category.

As for Best New Artist, one of the toughest fields to predict, Stick Season singer songwriter Noah Kahan has momentum on his side – his song just claimed No. 1 on the ARIA charts this week off the back of his successful arena tour.

There are a raft of Australian artists, writers and producers up for 2024 Grammys, with

ARIA winner and stream dream Dom Dolla scoring his first Grammy nomination in the Best Remixed Recording category for work on A Gorillaz track.

Another unsung Aussie hero in Grammy contention is Melbourne studio guru Keanu Beats who is among the writers included in Swift’s Album of the Year nomination for his work of her hit Karma.
