Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo; James Taylor; Englebert Humperdinck heading to Australia in 2024

Some of the world’s most iconic entertainers are playing in Australia one final time next year. See venue and ticket details.

Legendary tenors reunite for exclusive Australian tour

Legendary tenors Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo will reunite for an exclusive tour of Australia in March joining a raft of entertainment giants on farewell concert runs here next year.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer James Taylor, 75, will reprise his beloved songbook of hits around the country in April, while iconic British entertainer Englebert Humperdinck, 87, has booked theatres for his Last Waltz farewell tour in May.

Carreras, 76, and Domingo, 82, became a global sensation when they joined with the legendary Italian singer Luciano Pavarotti to tour as the Three Tenors from 1990 to 2003.

The pair took the stage together in January this year in Tokyo to mark the 20th anniversary of the final Three Tenors concert in honour of their late collaborator Pavarotti.

The duo will also be joined by a “high profile Australian soprano” on the tour which opens at Perth’s RAC Arena on March 7.

They are also booked to perform at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on March 10, the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on March 13, Qudos Bank Arena on March 16 and Adelaide Entertainment Centre on March 19.

TEG Group CEO Geoff Jones said the tour by the 76-year-old Carreras and 82-year-old Domingo would be a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

“This Australian tour promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for fans of classical music and opera enthusiasts, as the legendary duo showcase their timeless repertoire, spanning a wide range of genres and beloved masterpieces,” Jones said.

“This event marks a rare opportunity for Australian audiences to witness the magic created by two living legends, together again on the same stage.”

Carreras last toured Australia in 2017 on what was billed his final world tour.

Domingo hasn’t performed here since 2011 when he toured with Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins.

The opera legends became global chart stars when they first performed together in 1990 to welcome Carreras back to the stage after undergoing successful treatment for leukaemia.

The Three Tenors In Concert recording of their performance for the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Rome – watched by an estimated global audience of 800 million people – is the biggest selling classical record of all time with more than 10 million copies sold worldwide.

The trio performed once in Australia together at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 1, 1997 as part of their world tour.
