Barbie The Album claim No.1 as John Farnham returns to top 10 after doco broadcast

An unlikely cast of characters have worked to move Taylor Swift from the top of the charts, with one new album claiming No.1.

The Barbie film and John Farnham: Finding The Voice documentary continue to flex their cultural muscle with a takeover of the Australian pop charts.

After Barbie blitzed the global box office on its first week, the film soundtrack has knocked Taylor Swift’s Speak Now re-recording to claim No.1.

Three songs from the soundtrack also sprinted into the ARIA top 10, with Billie Eilish’s melancholic ballad What Am I Made For? leaping to No.2, Barbie World by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice rising 20 places to No.3 and Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night reaching its highest peak at No.6 after nine weeks.

Barbie is the first soundtrack to claim the top spot since Encanto in March last year.

Three John Farnham albums re-entered the ARIA top 50 after the television premiere of the Finding The Voice documentary on Seven this week attracted 1.3 million viewers nationally.

The national treasure’s Greatest Hits collection soared to No.9 while the doco soundtrack returned to the top 50 at No.21.

Whispering Jack, the album that changed his life and remains the highest selling Australian artist record, celebrated its 151st week in the ARIA charts as it was propelled into No.41.

The album which featured his signature hit You’re The Voice spent 25 weeks at No.1 in 1986 and 1987 and is certified 24 times platinum which equates to more than 1,680,000 copies sold over the past 37 years.

Taylor Swift previously held the number 1 spot

Swift maintains an overwhelming pop culture presence in Australia this week with five records holding strong in the top 10 – Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) at No.2, Midnights at No.3, 1989 at No.4, Lover at No.6 and Reputation at No.8.

Folklore, Red (Taylor’s Version), Evermore and Fearless (Taylor’s Version) also stayed in the top 50 albums.

She has six tracks on the ARIA top 50 singles with Cruel Summer the highest achiever at No.8.
