The state government’s Queensland Destination Events Program is investing in three Southern Queensland Country events during autumn and winter.

Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said Southern Queensland Country promised to indulge visitors with a taste of the good life.

“Opera at Jimbour, the Hampton Festival and Jumpers and Jazz offer vibrant cultural celebrations of local food, wine, music and the work of artisans in Southern Queensland Country,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“During autumn and winter, Southern Queensland Country is a stunning ideal getaway destination with something for the entire family to enjoy.

“We know events are important for encouraging visitors to stay, explore and support the region’s local tourism orientated businesses.”

Mr Hinchliffe said $484,000 was being invested by the state government in 23 destination events across nine regions to support Queensland’s COVID-19 economic recovery.

“We know the global COVID-19 pandemic has hit Queensland’s tourism industry hard,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“This round of the Queensland Destination Events Program is another important step in helping local communities to recover and supporting Queensland tourism to rebuild better.

“Whether putting on your Sunday best for Opera at Jimbour or the Crocodile Trophy mountain bike race in the Far North, events are the perfect excuse to pack a bag and enjoy a unique Queensland visitor experience.”

“Queensland’s Destination Events Program means there’s a festival, show or sporting event to entertain, fascinate or challenge Queenslanders and visitors for every month from May to November.

“Since 2015, the Palaszczuk Government’s Queensland Destination Events Program has delivered almost $13 million in support for more than 410 events in communities around the state.”

“We’re keen to help kickstart new events and help existing festivals to grow to reach their full visitor potential.

“More than ever, events are crucial to supporting Queensland tourism to recover from the global pandemic and rebuild better for the future.”
