MICHELLE Rodriguez is threatening to leave the Fast and the Furious franchise if they don’t “show some love to the women” in the series.
The actress shared her thoughts on Instagram saying “I just might have to say goodbye to a loved franchise” over what she hinted is a lack of appreciation for the female roles in the films.
She did not clarify if her post had anything to do with her salary for the films.
She did add, “It’s been a good ride & Im grateful for the opportunity the fans & studio have provided over the years.”
The latest flick — The Fate of the Furious — introduced two new female characters played by Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren, who starred alongside series regulars Rodriguez and Vin Diesel.
The film broke the record for biggest international weekend ever, with $US432.3 million. The previous record holder was Jurassic World with $316.7 million.
Furious 7 had a groundswell of additional interest due to the death of actor Paul Walker, who played cop turned street racer Brian O’Conner, a lead character in six of the films. He died in a car crash while the film was still in production.
The Fast and the Furious is a global juggernaut for Universal Pictures, which plans two additional pictures. With the addition of Fast 8, the franchise has earned an estimated $US4.4 billion globally.
