Goldie Hawn sees success as a double-edged sword

SHE’S one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars with almost five decades in the business but Hawn admits her success has come at a price.

SUCCESS and power are two different things for women in Hollywood according to Goldie Hawn.

Chatting with Entertainment Weekly, alongside her Snatched co-star Amy Schumer, the actress, 71, explained that the success of the 1980 smash hit Private Benjamin, the first film she produced, didn’t make the path to her next venture any easier.

“It doesn’t necessarily [mean] the fact that in your second movie somebody’s gonna look at you in that industry and say, ‘Well, she knows everything,’” she said of the Oscar-nominated comedy.

“Private Benjamin was the first movie I produced, and I produced it for practical reasons,” she explained. “It did not serve me because there were directors that thought, ‘Oh, she just wants to do her stuff’ or it became a ‘Goldie Hawn Movie.’”

Hawn added that the film’s success even became something of a hindrance for her.

“So getting a great director — although I worked with some wonderful ones — was not easy for these comedies, because nobody wanted to do something that had that stamp on it,” she said.

“It was a real double-edged sword.”

Snatched hits theatres on May 12.
