United Passions movie: ‘One of the most unwatchable films in recent memory’

IT STARS Tim Roth, Sam Neill and Gérard Depardieu, was released in 10 cinemas last week and after two days it had made an abysmal $607. So what’s the film and why is it so bad?

THE New York Times described it as “One of the most unwatchable films in recent memory” and the LA Times said it “Comes across as a squirm-inducing heap of propaganda”.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was released in 10 US cinemas last week and after two days it had earnt an abysmal $607 USD.

That means that less than 70 people in the whole of the United States had spent their hard earn money on a ticket.

In comparison, Spy made $US30 million at the US box office on the weekend, San Andreas pulled in $US26.4 million and Insidious Chapter 3 had $US23 million in sales.

So what’s the name of the film that tanked so badly?

It’s called United Passions and it’s about the history of FIFA — the organisation that is currently embroiled in a massive corruption scandal.

Starring Tim Roth, Sam Neill and Gérard Depardieu, the film cost more than $25 million USD to make and was mostly financed by FIFA itself.

Despite being panned by pretty much everyone who’s seen it, the movie’s director, Frédéric Auburtin, is doing his best to put a positive spin on his work.

“It’s not such crap,” he said to The New York Times.

Sadly, there’s no word yet on an Aussie release date.
