WARNING: Twisters spoilers ahead.

A moment from the hit disaster movie sequel Twisters that was left on the cutting room floor has left some fans of the flick fuming at what could have been.

Twisters, a stand-alone sequel to the 1996 movie Twister, stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell as rival tornado chasers Kate Carter and Tyler Owens, following deadly storms through the American midwest.

As the movie progresses, Kate and Tyler’s fierce rivalry turns to a begrudging respect and then (surprise, surprise) a flirty connection.

Many viewers have noted the two actors’ palpable chemistry, both on-screen and in interviews promoting the film.

Twisters has an oh-so-90s-blockbuster ending: Kate is at an airport, waiting to board a flight back to New York, when Tyler chases her down and they reconcile.

But, frustratingly, there’s no kiss. However, one was filmed – a big Hollywood, end-of-movie, airport smooch:

The two actors spoke about their characters’ only kiss not making the film’s final cut in a recent interview with Collider, after the interviewer noted some audiences had expressed disappointment at the pash-free ending.

Edgar-Jones revealed that it was a note from the film’s executive producer, legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, that saw the kiss nixed.

“I think it stops the film feeling too clichéd, actually. I think there’s something really wonderful about it feeling like there’s a continuation. This isn’t the end of their story. They’re united by their shared passion for something,” she said.

Powell agreed, arguing that the movie is “not about them finding love.”

“I feel like a kiss would be sort of unrepresentative of the right goal at the end of the movie. And it is a good Spielberg note. It’s why that kid is still in this game. It’s amazing.”
Not everyone agrees.

“Twisters spoilers ahead but … movies used to have kissing,” one person tweeted, while another replied she was “furious” at the lack of romantic payoff for the two leads.

“Glen Powell was in a movie with a woman and didn’t at least kiss her …? Is that legal?” another person joked.

“Always remember what they took from us,” another person tweeted alongside the cut footage.

“All that chemistry built only for them not to kiss was MADDENING,” another viewer complained.

For his part, Glen Powell told Collider that the kiss “would be sort of unrepresentative of the right goal at the end of the movie. And it is a good Spielberg note. It’s why that kid is still in this game.”
