CHARLIZE THERON is barely recognisable, covered in dirt and sporting a shaved head in her new role in the latest Mad Max.
As the rebel Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, her shocking look is a world away from the actress’s glamorous, polished image that normally walks the red carpets.
But this is no ordinary film franchise, and no standard role.
Fans of the Mad Max franchise have waited a long time for the next instalment, but the buzz created by the release of these images indicates it has been worth the delay.

Miller describes it as one long chase scene that kicks off in the opening scene and continues for the film’s 110-minute run time.
‘Mad’ Max Rockantansky is portrayed by British actor Tom Hardy, in a role made famous by Mel Gibson in the original.
“The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken and everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life,” the film’s official synopsis begins.
“Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order.”
“There’s Max, a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos.
“And (there’s) Furiosa, a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.”
The fourth film in the series will be in cinemas in mid 2015.
