Meshel Laurie blasts Rebel Wilson over ‘bulls**t’ story

Rebel Wilson has responded to Meshel Laurie, after the podcast host accused the Pitch Perfect star of telling a “bulls**t” story about her.

Meshel Laurie has blasted Rebel Wilson, accusing the actress of “making up” a “fu**ing bulls**t story” about her in her memoir.

But Rebel has responded, firmly denying the story has anything to do with the podcast host.

Speaking on her Can We Be Real? podcast, Laurie said she had recently heard the audiobook version of Rebel Rising and was fairly certain one of the stories was about her.

In the book, Rebel talks about how her life changed following her breakout role in Pitch Perfect, saying, “Everybody I ever knew who had my email or phone number called or messaged.”

The Aussie star went on to claim that one person from her past contacted her at the time and said, “Hi, yeah, I’m thinking of coming to LA. Can I stay with you? You’re the best. I always loved you. Bye.”

Rebel says that after receiving that message she thought to herself, “um, well, no, seeing as you weren’t really my friend and now you work the reception desk at a brothel, I’m not going to reply to you.”

She added, “I still feel guilty for saying no.”

Laurie was convinced the story was about her because she has been very open about the fact she used to work as a receptionist at a brothel.

Laurie has spoken about it extensively on radio and in podcasts, has written articles about it for major news outlets, and has even performed stand-up comedy on the topic.

“As a person who’s been in this [entertainment] industry for a long time, I have never ever met anyone or heard about anyone else who worked reception in a brothel,” Laurie said on Can We Be Real?

The podcaster told her co-host, Simon Baggs, that she had met Rebel in the past, albeit very briefly.

“I met her many, many years ago at this weird gig where she was pitching a show and I was hosting it … and we shared an agent for a long time,” Laurie said.

But the popular presenter was adamant she had never sent Rebel an email asking if she could stay with her in LA.

“I’ve never had her phone number or her email address,” she said on Can We Be Real?

“Maybe it’s about someone else,” she continued. “It has to be because it’s not about me. But it does annoy me that people … will have read this book and gone … ‘Oh, that’s so sad. Meshel Laurie pretended to be her friend.’

“That’s embarrassing. I don’t want people thinking that of me,” Laurie said.

Rebel set the record straight in an exclusive statement to news.com.au, saying, “I am absolutely NOT referring to Meshel Laurie in that segment or my book nor in any segment of my book. I am referring to a friend who I took acting classes with at the Australian Theatre for Young People.”

Regardless of the fact the story had nothing to do with her, Laurie was still unimpressed that Rebel included the anecdote in her memoir.

“She’s being a bitch to whomever it is,” the broadcaster said on Can We Be Real?

“That’s a put down saying, ‘the last time I heard of you, you were on reception at a brothel, like you’re not famous, you’re not successful, you’re not coming to stay at my house.’”
