MasterChef fan favourite Aldo breaks down over estranged father

He’s usually the happiest contestant in the MasterChef kitchen, but on tonight’s episode fan favourite Aldo breaks down in tears over a tragic, personal story.

MasterChef fan favourite Aldo Ortado is seen breaking down as he shares a heartbreaking personal story on Sunday night’s episode.

The bubbly Italian cook, who is loved among viewers for his charisma and energy, cooks an octopus dish during tonight’s elimination challenge, which brings back memories of his childhood with his now-estranged father.

“This is something that’s very close to me, it’s just bringing me back to a happy time in my life. Where I had a happy family,” Aldo says in a piece to camera.

He then tells judges Jock Zonfrillo and Andy Allen it reminded him of “going to Christmas Eve markets with my father.”

Aldo reveals a heartbreaking personal story on Sunday’s MasterChef.

Aldo, who first appeared on the show back in season 10, then revealed he hasn’t spoken to his dad since his wedding in 2020 with now-husband, Mark.

“My last time that I was back home in Italy was for my wedding. And that is when my father decided to not show up to the wedding, because he thought it was a circus,” Aldo shared through tears.

“That’s when I cut him off. I cut him out of my life.

“But I still want to remember that part of me being happy.”

Aldo revealed his beloved father didn't show up to his wedding to husband Mark in 2020.

Meanwhile, Channel 10 has shared tonight’s episode will see one of the biggest names leave the MasterChef kitchen.

It teases, “The most dramatic elimination yet.”

This year for its 14th season, the long-running show introduced a new format dubbed ‘Fans & Favourites’, with 12 past contestants, including original winner Julie Goodwin, returning to the kitchen to join 12 fresh faces.

MasterChef Australia airs tonight on Channel 10 at 7.30pm
