Kyle Sandilands: ‘Not everyone wants to hear about dildos’

The KIIS FM host has responded to the latest radio ratings, admitting his show might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Kyle Sandilands has admitted “not everyone wants to hear about dildos and arse lickings”, after his KIIS FM radio show recorded a lacklustre result in Melbourne’s radio ratings.

The Sydney-based Kyle and Jackie O Show started broadcasting in Melbourne on April 29, with Kyle predicting it would be the number one FM breakfast show by the end of the year.

But that now looks unlikely, with the pair failing to increase their audience share in the latest round of radio ratings which was released on Tuesday.

The Kyle and Jackie O Show is currently the sixth highest rated FM breakfast show in Melbourne, with an audience share of 5.9 per cent.

That’s the same audience share it had in the previous radio survey released in June.

The pair did however manage to increase their cume - an industry term for cumulative audience or the number of people who tuned in to sample to station - in Melbourne.

Kyle spoke about the ratings result on KIIS FM on Wednesday morning, describing the show as a “slow burn”.

“Not everyone wants to hear about dildos and arse lickings and fistings,” he said.

He then seemingly hit back at media reports that painted the show’s Melbourne ratings as “disappointing”.

“We gained another 50,000 people (listeners) but apparently that wasn’t good enough,” he said.

Kyle told listeners on Wednesday morning that he and Jackie were invited onto The Project on Tuesday night to discuss the ratings, but said their producers rejected the invite without even taking the offer to them.

“If we’re going to do any interviews we’ll be doing it on a high rating show, not some piece of s**t like The Project,” Kyle added.

Sweet revenge for Jase and Lauren

One breakfast team from Melbourne that definitely would have been smiling after Tuesday’s ratings was that of Jase and Lauren.

You might recall the pair used to host the KIIS 101.1 FM breakfast program, but were brutally axed late last year to make way for The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

The presenters were then picked up by Nova 100 where they’ve gone from strength to strength.

In the latest ratings, Jase and Lauren leapfrogged Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick to become the number 2 rated FM breakfast show in Melbourne with a 9.6 per cent audience share.

They’re now just 1.2 per cent behind FM market leader Christian O’Connell from Gold FM.
