Kyle Sandilands doubles down on ‘pornographic’ content

Kyle Sandilands has rejected feedback from listeners that his radio show with Jackie O has become “filthy, R-Rated pornography”.

Kyle and Jackie O have responded to a Melbourne mum who said she was “shocked” and “appalled” by a “pornographic” segment she’d heard on their KIIS FM breakfast show.

And the segment included a bizarre X-rated reference to Waleed Aly from Jackie O, who argued that the KIIS FM show’s racy entry into the Melbourne market would be like viewers turning on The Project to see the host talking about how he “fingered [a] chick on the weekend.”

Earlier this week, TikTok user Erin Danks blasted the hosts in a fiery video that has since been viewed more than 78,000 times.

“Kyle and Jackie O, what the actual hell did I just listen to at 9.45 on a Monday morning?” the woman says in the video. “Honestly, I am appalled.

“They were talking so disgustingly about blow jobs, going down on a girl … In my head, that’s like R-rated pornography on the fu**ing radio.

“That is revolting,” she said. “I can’t be the only one thinking this.”

The post attracted hundreds of comments with people saying they also found the content on the show, which now broadcasts into Melbourne as well as Sydney, to be too X-rated.

“I can’t listen to the filth they go on with, so you are not alone!” one person wrote.

“Yeah I think they’ve gone too far as well,” wrote another.

The segment the woman was referring to in the TikTok video was an on-air interview with the show’s Melbourne producer, Lachy Mansell, who told Kyle and Jackie O about his recent date with an Only Fans model.

I won’t go into too much detail about what he said, but some of his comments included:

“She gave me help with what to do to pleasure her … ‘Finger and tongue’ was the advice she gave me,” as well as, “I actually lasted long enough to have sex in a couple of different positions.”

The KIIS FM hosts discussed the woman’s TikTok complaint on air on Thursday morning, with Kyle admitting their show is “not for everyone”.

But then he dismissed the woman’s complaint, saying, “Why is she so shook? What’s going on with this lady?”

Jackie was more sympathetic, pointing out that their radio show has only been airing in Melbourne for a few months and listeners “are not used to it (yet)”.

“It’d be like watching The Project one night, and then suddenly Waleed turns to Tommy Little and goes, ‘So, I fingered this chick on the weekend, went down on her,’” Jackie said.

“It would be like, ‘Oh my god, what am I watching?’

“It would be shocking because you’re not used to it,” she said.

Kyle ended the discussion by describing the woman as a “Kmart jumper wearing catastrophiser,” and vowed to keep up the show’s adult content.

“I don’t want to change the show for one woman,” he said.

Too full on for Melbourne?

Kyle may be determined not to tone down the show’s content, but radio experts believe it could harm their chances of ratings success in Melbourne.

“They have a formula that has worked so well in Sydney – the question is whether a new audience, hearing them for the first time, will be ok with their content choices,” Craig Bruce, host of the Game Changers Radio: Melbourne Radio Wars podcast, told news.com.au.

In the latest round of radio ratings, Kyle and Jackie O were the top rated FM breakfast show in Sydney, but just the sixth highest rated FM breakfast show in Melbourne.

The Kyle and Jackie O Show had a 5.9 per cent audience share in Melbourne, well behind market leader Christian O’Connell from Gold FM, who had a 10.7 per cent share.

“In the long term I think the formula is simple, if there’s too much sex, they’re (Kyle and Jackie) a 6 share in Melbourne,” Mr Bruce told news.com.au.
