Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson reveal death clause in $200 million contract

Among the many clauses in their blockbuster radio contracts, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson have lifted the lid on one particularly sensitive one.

Longtime radio co-hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson have revealed the grim death clause in their individual contracts.

The KIIS FM stars, who have worked together for more than 20 years, signed a monster $200 million deal with Australian Radio Network (ARN) in November 2023 that would see them remain on airwaves until 2034, each pocketing a minimum of $10 million per year.

Understandable, then, that the legalities would be ironed out to the extreme.

Speaking on Kyle and Jackie O Show Thursday morning, the duo opened up about what would happen to the show if one of them were to die, and they each had different stipulations.

“They [lawyers] did ring me when they were doing this new deal and said ‘Jackie wants this [death] clause’,” Sandilands said.

“I said, ‘I’ve had this for years.’”

As part of Henderson’s contract, the host specified she’d want the option to leave the show if Sandilands passed away.

“I don’t know if I would want to do it with someone else,” Henderson told her co-host.

“Aw, bless you,” Sandilands said, before revealing his own rather savage ask.

“We drop your name. I get your income,” he claimed.

“I’d just soldier on without you. I wouldn’t like it, [but] I wouldn’t want to let that great bit of content die on the vine. I’d rather be on-air crying.”

Elsewhere, Sandilands said it was stated in his contract he would only fly via private jet or first class if he was required to work overseas.

“These aren’t beyond belief,” he said.

As part of their record-breaking deal, Sandilands and Henderson also began broadcasting in Melbourne in April last year.

Meanwhile, Henderson opened up about the future of her radio career on the Her Best Life podcast, which she co-hosts with best friend Gemma O’Neill, earlier this month.

The mother-of-one spoke to how she was in “alignment” right now, where she felt fulfilled and happy within herself, not by external factors.

This, she said, had impacted how she views success, with Henderson saying she’d be willing to walk away from the security of her job if it no longer felt right.

“I have been questioning myself over the last year where I thought, ‘OK should this not align with me in the future, how willing am I to walk away from that security, that money, the kind of lifestyle that brings?’” Henderson said.

“Since I was a little girl, I dreamt of owning a beach house, and I just recently purchased a knockdown house on the beach and am finally fulfilling the dream of the beach house. And so, as little as three months ago, I really thought, ‘No, I couldn’t leave my job if I was really unhappy.’ And I’m not implying I am, but if I were, I [thought], I don’t think I could leave that job because I don’t wanna let go of that beach house, you know?

“And it’s only just when you get connected to your true self, and everything becomes clear and you get that clarity, it’s [actually] so easy to let that go. And I am so fine to walk away from all of that, really fine.”
