Jimmy Kimmel’s 19-minute monologue divides America

Talk show host Jimmel Kimmel has delivered a scathing 19-minute monologue ahead of next week’s US election.

With just one week left until election day in the US, another celebrity has revealed who will win their vote come November 5.

Jimmy Kimmel is typically known for his jokes on his late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but on Tuesday’s show his monologue took a serious turn when he pleaded for Americans not to vote Donald Trump back into office, all while admitting he was “biased against” the former president.

“Tonight’s monologue is for Republicans. So, if you have someone in your life who is either planning to vote for Trump or thinking about it, I would like you to send this to a Republican you love and respect with a request: ask them to watch this whole thing, as a personal favour to you,” the comedian began his on-air monologue.

“Do I think I have good reasons for being biased against him? Yes. And I’m probably wrong, but I think when you hear some of those reasons, you might agree with me even just a tiny bit.”

During his 19-minute plea, Kimmel aired several clips of Trump’s past speeches, interviews and rallies in an attempt to show the 78-year-old is unfit to be commander in chief of the United States.

One clip that flashed on the show was of Trump rambling about how much he hated windmills in a rant about his dislike of wind power as an energy source.

“The wind, the wind, it sounds so wonderful,” Trump said sarcastically during a speech in Pennsylvania. “The wind, the wind, the wind is, the wind is bulls**t, I’ll tell you.”

In his own speech, Kimmel said he was dumbfounded over Trump’s tangents.

“The wind is bulls**t,’” Kimmel repeated on camera. “Honestly, do you know anyone who speaks like that? The people you know who think the wind is bulls**t are crazy people standing on a street corner yelling at cars. He’s completely preoccupied with nonsense.”

The talk-show host said that half the time Americans don’t know what the Republican presidential candidate is going on about, arguing that any president “should be focused on things that are actually things”.

“We don’t know what you’re talking about. And we don’t know why you are talking about it,” Kimmel addressed Trump directly. “Aren’t you supposed to be running for president? Aren’t you supposed to be worried about important topics?”

The host added that Trump had four full years as president from 2017 to 2021 and still he doesn’t understand the assignment.

“Donald Trump was president for four years. You would think that at this point, he would have some answers, some kind of plan, for simple questions about subjects like health care and childcare,” Kimmel remarked.

“He has no plan to grocery prices, or to make us safer or to protect the border. The only plans he has is file lawsuits, legal challenges, settle scores and punish his enemies. That’s all he has planned he’s going to pull all the same tricks he pulled last time and more.

“This is not my opinion, this is happening right out in the open. The one thing that makes this country a democracy more than anything else are free and fair elections of the people by the people and for the people. He wants to turn it of me, for me, by me.”

He also pointed out Trump’s legal woes. In May, the former businessman was charged with four criminal counts, including conspiracy to defraud the US and conspiracy against the rights of citizens.

“Will he be president from jail? I mean, how do you see that working?” Kimmel quipped.

The internet has been left divided over Kimmel’s rant about the former president.

The internet has since weighed in on Kimmel’s rant with a mixed bag of reactions.

“This is absolutely brilliant by Kimmel, all in Trump’s own words,” one person tweeted, while another commented, “Jimmy Kimmel with a powerful prosecution of Trump’s nonsense and idiocy in tonight’s monologue. Killing the goon with video evidence.”

However, many viewers were left with a sour taste over Kimmel’s monologue, with some users saying they would now vote for Trump just to spite the talk show host.

“I was on the fence, but since Hollywood elites like Jimmy Kimmel are supporting Harris, I’ll cast a vote for Trump,” one person tweeted.

“Kimmel fell off and has gone woke,” read another.

“Remember when Johnny Carson and Jay Leno were hosts and it was all about class and entertainment? Jimmy is a clown,” was another comment.
