Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid’s awkward exchange on Met Gala red carpet

NOT even Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid’s perfectly planned Met Gala outfits could stop them from having an awkward red carpet run-in.

But not even the most perfectly planned outfit could stop Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid from having an awkward red carpet run-in.

The two women were photographed looking somewhat uncomfortable as they exchanged hugs on Monday night in New York — probably trying to forget their shared link to singer The Weeknd.

The Canadian singer, real name Abel Tesfaye, has attended the Met Gala twice before — last year as Selena’s date and on the arm of Gigi’s sister Bella Hadid in 2016.

The Weeknd dated Bella for 18 months before the pair called time on their relationship in November 2016.

Just weeks after announcing their split, Bella was forced to share the runway with The Weeknd, who was performing at the Victoria’s Secret Show.

The Weeknd began dating Selena, a friend of Bella’s, just months later in January 2017.

Bella unfollowed Selena on Instagram soon after her relationship with the Starboy singer went public.

However Selena’s romance with The Weeknd was short-lived, the pair splitting in October 2017 and the Wolves singer reuniting with on/off boyfriend Justin Bieber.

Bella told Teen Vogue in February 2017 she had felt her split from The Weeknd “very heavily” as it was her first romance in the public eye.

“As an outsider, you might think I handled it so well, but it’s always in your heart, and you always feel it very heavily. It’ll be hard for a while,” she said.

“Love hurts, but you have to pull through. But I’ll always respect him, and I’ll always love him.”

Bella also attended this year’s Met Gala, however, was not pictured hugging Selena like her sister.
