The purple carpet was rolled out last night in Sydney for the Australian premiere of the new Bridget Jones movie, Mad About The Boy, with the cast attending the star-studded event.
The film’s star Renee Zellweger was the main attraction, arriving at the Hoyts Entertainment Quarter in Sydney’s Moore Park looking pretty in pink.
The Hollywood star walked the purple carpet along with her castmates Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sally Phillips and Leo Woodall, who plays her love interest in the new instalment of the film franchise. The movie’s director, Michael Morris, was also in attendance.
“It is one of life’s great blessings,” Zellweger told The Daily Telegraph at the event of playing the titular character for the fourth time.
“And what a weird thing too to be sharing life’s journey in real time with a fictional character, but it is very special.”
Mad About the Boy is the latest instalment in the beloved Bridget Jones franchise – it is the fourth film in the series which comes almost 10 years after the third instalment, Bridget Jones’ Baby.
In this film, Zellweger is back in the quirky role, this time as a widow and single mum-of-two following the death of her husband, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth).
This chapter sees Bridget journey through motherhood and online dating before reawakening her sense of romance when she meets Roxster (Woodall), a 29-year-old who becomes her young love interest.
“It is incredibly special to be a part of this,” Woodall told The Daily Telegraph. “Bridget Jones is one of those things that people have loved since it first came out and they have continued to feel very connected with her.”
“She has made people feel seen in a way that other characters in cinema haven’t so it is really cool to be a part of.”
The cast was joined at the Australian premiere with the who’s who of Sydney, from beloved personality Kerri-Anne Kennerley to radio star Brittany Hockley.
TV and media personality Jessica Rowe made it a mother-daughter date night by bringing her daughter Giselle Overton.
It was also date night for Colin from Accounts star Tai Hara and his wife, former Hi-5 star Fely Irvine.
The Block’s fabulous duo Mitch and Mark were also there, as was model and former Miss World Australia Erin Holland and former Married At First Sight star Jules Robinson.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy hit cinemas on February 13.
