Kim Kardashian talks babies, bad days, booty and what she really thinks of Australian women

IT was eight minutes that was more accurate than a Swiss watch convention as the reality star sat down to talk babies, bad days, and what she really thinks of Aussie women.

IT was eight minutes that was more accurate than a Swiss watch convention.

With military precision, I was greeted in the lobby of the super smart Park Hyatt Hotel in Sydney by a posse of perfectly pleasant and poised PR peeps. And a security detail.

No, no not for me (as if!) but just in case a diehard fan attempted to, well, actually meet let alone greet the woman the media had come to interview.

Sure, the Kardashian surname draws reaction and attention — some good, some not-so-good — but no matter your view, the Kardashians make news. Are news. Do news. And that’s why we’re here.

Just to give you a bit of background about these press ‘junket’ days, here goes.

Interviews are slotted in one after the other — mine was slated for 1.24pm (yes, 24) — with about a minute of ‘Kim’ time in between each.

One hotel suite has a ‘junket’ camera crew where 2 cameras are set up that both the interviewer (me) and the interviewee (Kim) use.

In another suite next door, TV news crews take it in turns to bring their own crews, so as one suite gets used for an interview, the other one is being set up for the next.

My interview was nestled somewhere between radio’s Sophie Monk and Fitzy and Wippa and Ten’s Angela Bishop and the Sydney Fashion Blogger.

The latter, while not a working journalist, managed a sweet selfie with Ms Kardashian West that had already garnered over 15000 likes two hours after it had been posted.

Meanwhile an Insta post that Kim put up of TimTams — they were a gift from her Aussie public relations company Tailor Maid — had already acquired 250000 likes, just four hours after its posting.

As soon as I arrived a half-hour before the appointed time I was handed an envelope with a laminated media pass, a WI-FI access code and a list of my ‘approved’ questions.

Oh yes. I had quickly written down 10 questions at 5am one morning (I tend to ignore questions-to-be-asked requests until the absolute last minute) and all of them were, miraculously, approved.

OK, so I hadn’t exactly asked about Obama’s new IS strategy, a recalcitrant Putin or Tony Abbott’s terror alert (thought I’d leave these to Leigh Sales) but therein lies the rub.

If questions like that had been submitted they would has been declined, such is the way the PR machine works in celebrity-land and also in Kardashian World.

So, Kim greeted me pleasantly, said she was “really good” when I asked, before she asked the camera guy to shoot from the ‘waist-up’ after she had seen the monitor shot of herself in front.

“Yeah, this is my fifth time in Australia,’’ Kim cooed.

Looking resplendent in a killer body-hugging black dress (from her new collection) and her signature, exquisitely applied make-up, Kim was nothing but, well, bloody nice.

Kim is obviously wary of how she answers every single question — you can tell she never wants to be too specific about people or places or times — which seems ironic considering her life IS a reality TV show.

“I love Australian women and their style is fun and vibrant and I see lots of colour,’’ Kim tells me as her immaculate eyes gaze right into mine. I hope that wasn’t looking through them?

Either way. I really like her. All eight minutes of her.

She tells me her that inspiration for the new Kardashian Kollection starts when she and her sisters send each other “either fabrics and colour” before they “get together with mood boards and we pick pieces that we may like to into samples.”

In among their new KK collection, which she is Australia to promote (while husband Kanye West tours the country) her faves are a baseball jacket and an “easy” jumpsuit.

Surprisingly, fusing family and a heavy working life isn’t that hard, Kim tells me: “It seems like we are together a lot and there are times we are, but like now, I am here in Australia and obviously when we are filming we do spend a lot of time together.’’

As a relative new mum to 14-month-old North, kidswear she says is something “that would be amazing to bring to Australia,’’ she adds.

“Now that I know what it’s like to have things for kids that are comfortable and ‘mom’ friendly it would be great.’’

Asked whether she has any downtime in her life, “this IS my downtime,’’ Kim says, with no surprise in her voice at all.

“We start shooting season 10 in October so we’ll all be together again for that.’’

Perhaps the most telling sign or a glimpse of the ‘real’ Kim is when I suggest she seems genuinely happy in her own skin.

“I think so, everything seems exactly where it is supposed to be,’’ she smiles.

And with that, I’m given the finger wind-up by Kim’s PA; we take the obligatory one-frame, no flash selfie and the reality-star-turned-fashion-designer-turned-global-celebrity gets straight onto her phone and swiftly moves into ‘next interview’ mode.

For Kim Kardashian, real life and celebrity life are one big merge and at this stage, she certainly seems to have it all under control.

KIMS’S STYLE TIPS

•Know your own body is the KK fashion mantra

•Know what the things are that make you look skinny as well as the pieces that make you look really hippy!

•A blazer or a coat or long sleeve dress will hide a ‘feeling bad’ day

•Sunglasses — and mighty big ones — will also perk up a ‘bad’ day
