Plans for Harry and Meghan to attend King Charles’ coronation ‘being finalised’

After months of speculation, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly on the cusp of finally revealing their decision about attending the coronation

Will Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and Andrew attend King Charles’ coronation?

After months of speculation, it appears Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s attendance at King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s coronation is now “being finalised”.

With just weeks to go until the historic Westminster Abbey ceremony, and following “lengthy discussions” between Buckingham Palace and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, it’s looking more than likely that the pair will be there, according to Page Six.

“There have been lengthy discussions between the Sussexes and the Palace, there is a time crunch on this, of course,” a royal insider told the publication.

“It’s such a historical event and it’s hoped that Harry and Meghan will be there.”

However, the final call ultimately rests with Harry, with a source telling Page Six: “All families are difficult, but this is no normal family, of course. Harry has a lot of questions about how the event will work.”

Events for the coronation will kick off on May 6 with the ceremony and continue with a Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle on Sunday, May 7 and bank holiday celebrations on May 8.

It was confirmed last month that Harry and Meghan had been invited to the coronation, as had been expected, but they’ve yet to officially announce their RSVP.

It’s understood that negotiations between the Sussexes and the palace has caused the delay with reports the couple wanted a place on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during the official royal family appearance, and acknowledgment during the festivities of their two young kids.

However, we now know at least one of those requests certainly won’t be granted. It was revealed on Thursday that Charles had made a final decision on which royals will be permitted to join him on the Palace balcony, and it definitively ruled out Harry and Meghan.

The full 15-person list of family members invited to gather there will strictly include working royals only, which also excludes the disgraced Prince Andrew.

The only exceptions to the rule are Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Back in January, during a publicity interview for his bombshell memoir Spare with ITV’s Tom Bradby, Harry hinted at what needed to occur before he and Meghan would agree to attend his father’s coronation.

“There’s a lot that can happen between now and then,” Harry told the journalist.

“But, you know, the door is always open. The ball is in their (his family’s) court. There’s a lot to be discussed and I really hope that they can, that they are willing to, sit down and talk about it, because there’s a lot that’s happened in six years.”
