Prince Harry and Meghan Markle cannot split as the value of their brand is built on their togetherness, it has been claimed.
The new claims came amid a scathing Vanity Fair cover story, which alleged that Meghan’s team spruiked a potential book about her life “post-divorce” from Prince Harry — despite the couple not having split up.
However, a source who worked closely with the couple told Page Six that a split was not on the cards.
“Meghan and Harry know that they are tied together, their value is in being a couple — even if they wanted to split, they couldn’t,” the source said.
“And honestly, they are obsessed with each other. They are just two narcissists.”
A publishing insider told Page Six the pair’s much-hyped Penguin Random House deal, which was originally believed to include books on “leadership” and “wellness”, appeared to have gone by the wayside after Harry’s explosive best-selling memoir, Spare.
“They are worth more together,” the insider told Page Six.
“It doesn’t benefit them to be apart — they have all their deals together. I think the Random House deal is much like the Netflix deal: Netflix just said ‘Yes’ to everything because they wanted to get the docu-series (Harry & Meghan).
“So they said, ‘Ok, we’ll take the Polo show’ and let’s see what happens with Meghan’s lifestyle show.
MEGHAN’S TEAM ‘HELD TALKS ON POST-DIVORCE BOOK DEAL’
Aides working for Meghan are said to have spoken with an unnamed publishing house to “gauge interest” in the idea for the book, according to a scathing expose on the Sussexes published by Vanity Fair.
An insider told the magazine that the divorce book meeting did not indicate that Harry and Meghan were splitting, but was intended to see if the publisher would “theoretically be interested” if they were ever to break up.
The source is said to have clarified that the book was meant to be about the aftermath of a split from Harry and not Meghan’s first husband, Trevor Engelson, whom she divorced in 2014.
Vanity Fair reported that the publisher never made an offer and no manuscript was produced because there was no divorce to write about.
The bombshell report also includes interviews with multiple people who worked with Meghan and slammed her for her “bullying” behaviour.
The article claimed that Meghan and Harry had got on the wrong side of locals in Montecito, where they are referred to by some as “the prince and the starlet’.
One local didn’t hold back, describing the couple as “the most entitled, disingenuous people on the planet”.
A source close to the couple described their dynamic to Vanity Fair as Meghan having a “caregiver and facilitator” role in which she is the one who “makes things happen”.
Another source told Vanity Fair that Prince Harry had no clue that his bombshell expose on life in the royal family, Spare, would have such a devastating impact on King Charles and Prince William.
The source told Vanity Fair that they wondered if Prince Harry understood the “power of the written word, and the power of the narrative” while undertaking the project.
Speculation over the state of the couple’s marriage grew in late 2024 amid rumours their relationship was in trouble.
After loved-up displays of unity during their faux royal tours of Nigeria and Colombia, the pair went their separate ways in the latter half of the year, each making solo appearances at numerous events.
Meghan was spotted supporting her female friends in their various projects in a string of glam appearances in the US.
Harry, meanwhile, raised eyebrows when he embarked on a surprise solo visit to Vancouver to promote the Winter Invictus Games.
The royal directly addressed the speculation about his marriage last December at the 2024 DealBook Summit in New York. “Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times,” he dryly quipped. “We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?’”
