Prince William has admitted he’s “lost his voice” after a wildly enthusiastic appearance cheering on his beloved football team.

Birmingham-based Aston Villa had a historic 1-0 victory against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, and the Prince of Wales lead the charge of supporters from the stands at Villa Park stadium.

It was the team’s first home in European football’s elite competition in more than four decades.

Television footage showed William cheering and fist-pumping at full time as the game hit full time, cementing Aston Villa’s win.

Afterwards, the excited royal revealed: “I’ve lost my voice. I can’t quite believe it. 42 years.”

The prince is a huge football fan, and is even patron of the English Football Association.

Prior to the game, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official X account posted a message about the “historic” event.

“42 years on, our 1982 European Cup winning legends are here on a historic night for @AVFCOfficial,” it read.

“Ready for the first game on home turf in this year’s European adventure … £UTV (Up the Villa).”

It’s been a busy week for William, who made a special appearance at RAF Northolt in West London on Tuesday to celebrate the success of London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s “Up Against Time” fundraising appeal and the launch of their new helicopters.

The prince, who is patron of the charity, was joined by David Beckham, with the pair spotted laughing as they chatted away and took selfies with LAAC representatives at the base.

“As soon as I was asked to be involved by Prince William it was something I was very honoured [to do] in all honesty,” said Beckham, adding that he was “very proud to be invited”.

The former football star also praised the “incredible work that the pilots and the medics do” and the “millions of lives they’ve saved”.

The appeal raised a total of £16 million (A$30 million) which covered the purchase of two new H135 choppers.
