Details of the couple’s unexpected phone conversation with King Charles this week after months of silence have been revealed.

Details of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s private phone call with King Charles this week have been revealed.

The Sun reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke six months of silence toward the royal family by contacting the monarch on Tuesday and wishing him a happy 75th birthday.

Charles’ birthday involved a jam-packed itinerary, but it’s understood he took a break to have a “friendly” catch-up with his son and daughter-in-law.

“The King was extremely busy but is polite and loves his son and his grandchildren, and not so mean that he would not take a call on his birthday,” a source told The Sun.

The icebreaking phone call confirms widespread reports on Monday that Harry was planning to contact his father.

Despite visiting Britain several times this year, the King’s younger son has not seen his father since their brief encounter during the coronation in early May – and have not spoken face-to-face since the late Queen’s funeral last September.

According to The Sun, Tuesday’s phone call between the trio included plans to “speak again soon”, although the source added that there is still “a long way to go” in repairing the fractured relationship.

“There is still a long way to go to mend the rift created over many years — and the deeper issues caused by allegations in the Netflix series and Spare are not healed with a phone call,” the insider said, referring to Harry and Meghan’s docu-series and the duke’s tell-all memoir.

The King’s birthday had gotten off to a rocky start well before the big event, with Harry and Meghan releasing an extraordinary statement last week denying allegations they’d “snubbed” an invitation to his party – and pointing out they weren’t even asked.

The Sunday Times had claimed that the Duke of Sussex rejected the King’s olive branch offer, which would have seen he and his wife reunite with the royal family for an intimate celebration at Clarence House on November 14.

However, the Sussex’s spokesman soon hit back, pointedly remarking that they were actually left off the guest list entirely.

“In response to UK media headlines, there has been no contact regarding an invitation to his majesty’s upcoming birthday,” Ashley Hansen told the New York Post.

“It is disappointing the Sunday Times has misreported this story.”
