NFL star and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce is being slammed for his Instagram post after the recent US election.
Just hours after Donald Trump was announced as America’s 47th President amid beating Kamala Harris, Kelce took to social media to share an update on his Instagram.
While other celebrities were speaking out about the election results.
Billionaire Elon Musk was celebrating on X and calling the results “inevitable”, and Billie Eilish expressed her disappointment at the results and called it a “war on women”.
Kelce on the other hand, who has never publicly shared his political views, went about his business as usual and posted photos of him and his team The Chiefs to celebrate beating The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“Arrowhead at night,” he captioned the post with two fire emojis and a camera emoji.
Fans were divided that Kelce was posting about something trivial when a huge election had just occurred.
“Read the room! This is basic,” one complained.
“Is it possible to not make everything about politics and just let him celebrate a win?” another asked.
“Girl! Not right now,” another wrote.
“Travis! Not right now,” someone else echoed.
“Typical white male action! Posting a self-celebration at this time,” one remarked.
“Ya’ll are too sensitive,” another remarked.
“It blows my mind that some of you think he shouldn’t be posting about his football game today because the election didn’t go how you wanted. This is a football player’s page, not a political page,” one argued.
There were also an influx of comments of people telling Kelce he should leave the country because his girlfriend Swift had endorsed Harris.
“You finishing the season before you and Taylor move out the country?” one asked.
“Shouldn’t you and your gf be getting ready to flee the country,” another asked.
One person added: “No one can post anything other than how upset they are about the election? Get out of here with that. There is enough places on social media to talk about politics.”
While Kelce has never spoken about politics, he is often lumped in with the people in his life who do.
He is best friends with his Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes, and it has long been rumoured that his wife, Brittany Mahomes, is a Trump supporter.
Meanwhile, he is also dating Swift, who has more than 200 million Instagram followers and has endorsed Ms Harris on social media.
She wrote that she was voting for Ms Harris because she believes she’s “fighting for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior and champion for them”, explaining that she’d done her research and was certain of her decision.
Swift signed off on the endorsement as a “childless cat lady”, a jab at JD Vance, whose 2021 comments about female Democrats went viral after he was announced as Trump’s vice president pick.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Mr Vance complained that America was being run by Democrats and “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too”.
Swift offering her endorsement was a big deal.
She’s arguably the most famous woman in the world, and she didn’t speak about politics until 2018.
