Paris Fashion Week 2024: Katy Perry topless as Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts attend Balenciaga show with kids

Aussie stars Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts are copping backlash after attending one of fashion’s hottest events with their children, where singer Katy Perry caused a frenzy.

Aussie stars Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts are under fire after showing support for controversial Spanish fashion house Balenciaga.

The Aussie actors turned on the glamour with their rarely seen children at the Paris Fashion Week event.

But their appearance sparked backlash online after Balenciaga recently landed in hot water over an ad campaign that featured children holding plush toys wearing bondage-style attire.

A second ad included a document under a Balenciaga handbag which appeared to reference a court case about child pornography.

Balenciaga later issued a number of apologies, pulled down the ad campaigns and filed a $US25 million ($A37 million) lawsuit against the production company and set designer allegedly responsible.

“Nicole and Naomi should know better,” said one fan.

“They just couldn’t pass the opportunity. So sad and vain,” said another.

Another couldn't believe the stars could support the brand as they are parents.

“I simply cannot believe that anyone, particularly a parent, would associate with this brand,” they said, adding “Much less GIVE them positive publicity and support.”

Kidman, who has a huge advertising deal with the brand, stepped out with 15-year-old daughter Sunday Rose Urban, while Watts was there with her youngest child, Kai Schreiber, also aged 15.

Kidman was the epitome of chic in a black gown with a mermaid skirt and short sleeves, accessorised with a pair of black sunglasses.

Sunday Rose, the eldest daughter of Kidman and Keith Urban, has rarely been photographed in public.

She matched her mother in a black dress with her long blonde hair down.

Watts appeared to channel the vintage glamour from her recent TV role in Feud: Capote vs The Swans, donning a cream-coloured sculptural top and matching skirt while Kai wore a sheer black lace top and long black skirt.

Also causing a stir at the Balenciaga show was pop star Katy Perry, who went topless under a fur coat paired with ripped leggings.

Perry warmly hugged Kidman and chatted to her as they took their seats at the exclusive show.

The Firework singer, mother to toddler daughter Daisy with partner Orlando Bloom, went braless, exposing her bare chest and incredibly toned stomach.

She accessorised with black leather heels, sunglasses and a slicked-back updo.

However, despite being the toast of Paris Fashion Week, Perry copped scathing criticism for her “desperate” look on social media.

Another critic described her look as “vulgar” while some called into question her endorsement of Balenciaga, which was embroiled in a 2022 scandal over an ad campaign featuring children holding teddy bears in bondage harnesses and costumes.

The fashion house later apologised and withdrew the campaign after issuing a statement condemning child abuse.

One Perry critic posted on Instagram: “Why are all these people so desperate for attention?”

Another accused her of trying to compete with Kanye West’s Aussie wife Bianca Censori, who is known for her risque outfits.

However, one fashionista leapt to Perry’s defence on X, posting: “Not one of her haters will look this good at 39. Not one.”

Balenciaga said its 53rd couture collection “illuminates savoir-faire through original techniques and material innovations.”

“Streetwear, goth, skater and metalhead subcultures interact with part minimalistic form and part reimagined glamour,” the fashion house said. “The relationship between fabric, form, the garment and the body is central.

In the collection, “archival influences are present, yet processes and finishes are modernised.”
