Michael Hutchence: Paula Yates doco shows prediction about death

A chilling comment made before Aussie music legend Michael Hutchence was found dead in a hotel room has been revealed.

Paula Yates made a chilling prediction about the death of INXS frontman Michael Hutchence just over a year before the star was found dead in a Sydney hotel room.

In footage aired in Paula, a new two-part documentary about the late British TV presenter, Yates is seen talking to her lawyer as she left a London court following a bitter custody battle with ex-husband Sir Bob Geldof.

“This will kill Michael,” Yates, the mother of Hutchence’s daughter Tiger Lily, told her lawyer.

The custody battle prevented Yates from her taking her three older daughters, who she shared with Sir Bob, to see Hutchence in Sydney.

Hutchence was found dead in his hotel room at the Ritz Cartlon in Double Bay aged 37 on November 22, 1997 – which was soon after Yates made the comment.

Yates died from a heroin overdose in 2000 at her Notting Hill home, three years after Hutchence.

The documentary also heard from a close friend of Yates who recounted a chance encounter they had with Princess Diana at the height of her fame.

Belinda Brewin claimed Princess Diana said she liked to see Yates on the front pages of the newspapers, because it meant she could escape public scrutiny for a day.
