Bullock’s sister’s emotional tribute to star’s partner

Sandra Bullock’s sister has paid tribute to the star’s long-term partner, who died from a rare debilitating disease that also has links with an AFL legend. See what it is.

Sandra Bullock’s sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, has paid tribute to the actor’s late partner Bryan Randall, who passed away following a three-year battle with ALS, a “cruel” and rare debilitating condition.

“I’m convinced that Bry has found the best fishing spot in heaven and is already casting his lure into rushing rivers teaming with salmon,” she wrote on Instagram on Monday night.

“ALS is a cruel disease but there is some comfort in knowing he had the best of caretakers in my amazing sister and the band of nurses she assembled who helped her look after him in their home. Rest in peace, Bryan.

“In lieu of flowers, please donate to ALS Association and Massachusetts General Hospital.”

WHAT IS ALS?

Known as motor neurone disease (MND) in Australia and as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease in the US, the incurable disease weakens muscles and impacts physical function.

The nervous system disease typically affects people in their mid-50s and survival is approximately two to five years from the onset of symptoms.

Two people are diagnosed with MND a day and more than 2000 Australians are now living with the disease.

One of those is AFL great Neale Daniher, who was diagnosed with the condition 10 years ago.

He has been campaigning to raise awareness and funds to fight the disease through Fight MND and the annual Big Freeze fundraising event.

SANDRA BULLOCKS’S PARTNER DIES, AGED 57

Sandra Bullock’s longtime partner, Bryan Randall, has tragically died at the age of 57 after a three-year batle with ALS.

His family confirmed the devastating news that Randall had died from motor neurone disease in a statement to People magazine.

“It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS,” it read.

“Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honour his request.

“We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours.

“At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan.”

It was signed: “His Loving Family.”

The pair mostly kept their relationship private but Bryan Randall posted a thank you to Sandra Bullock in 2018.

Miss Congeniality star Bullock first met model-turned-photographer Randall in January 2015 when he was the photographer at her son’s birthday party.

Later that year they announced their relationship to the public and made an appearance together at the wedding of Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux.

The pair were rarely pictured together but in 2018 Randall posted a loving tribute to the Hollywood star on Instagram, thanking her for giving him an incredible birthday celebration.

The 59-year-old Hollywood star, who has a son Louis, 13, and a daughter Laila, 10, described Randall as the love of her life in candid 2021 interview on Red Table Talk.

“I found the love of my life,” Bullock told host Jada Pinkett Smith. “We share two beautiful children — three children, (Randall’s) older daughter. It’s the best thing ever.”

Bullock, the highest paid actress in Hollywood, had a previously rocky love life and split from husband Jesse James in 2011 amid a cheating scandal.
