Kevin Spacey has furiously hit back at an A-list Aussie actor, demanding he “grow up” and insisting he’s “not a victim.”

Actor Kevin Spacey has published a furious video statement addressed to Guy Pearce, demanding the Aussie actor “grow up” and stop playing the victim.

Pearce made headlines yesterday with emotional claims made on a podcast, that Spacey had targeted him with inappropriate behaviour when they both starred in the 1997 film LA Confidential together.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Pearce claimed that Spacey harassed him for months on the set of the thriller.

Pearce, 57, claimed that the only days he felt “safe” on set where when fellow Aussie actor Simon Baker was present: “[Kevin] focuses on [Simon] because he was 10 times prettier than I am.”

“He targeted me, no question,” an audibly emotional Pearce claimed, revealing that years later he broke down sobbing when he saw that Spacey, 65, had been accused of unwanted sexual advances by other men.

Spacey, who came out as gay in 2017 when the first of the allegations surfaced, has either been acquitted or has had charges dropped in all sexual misconduct cases against him.

In a post on X this morning, Spacey addressed his former co-star directly.

“Guy Pearce, I’ve now read the comments that you made about me, and while I would have preferred not to have to play this out in the media, you obviously have your own reasons for wanting to do exactly that,” he said.

Spacey argued that the pair had worked together “a long time ago” and that if he’d upset Pearce, they could have worked it out privately rather than Pearce airing it in the media.

“You really want to know what my response is? Grow up. Did you also, by the way, tell the press that a year after we shot L.A. Confidential, you flew to Savannah, Georgia, while I was shooting Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, just to spend time with me. I mean, did you tell the press that, too? Or does that not fit into the victim narrative you have going?”
According to IMDB, LA Confidential filmed from May to August 1996, while Midnight was shot a year later, from May to July 1997.

Spacey also appeared to make the extraordinary allegation that Pearce, who married his ex-wife and high school sweetheart Kate Mestitz in 1997, may have been “leading him on” during their time spent working together.

“I apologise that I didn’t get the message that you don’t like spending time with me. I mean, maybe there was another reason. I don’t know. But that doesn’t make any sense that you would have just been leading me on, right?” he said.

Spacey finished his statement by mocking Pearce for voicing his allegations now, almost 30 years after the alleged incidents had taken place.

“Here you are now on a mission some 28 years later, after I’d been through hell and back to do what? Just in time to stop the bad guy, huh? Is that what’s going on here? What took you so long? Did your horse run out of gas? I mean, you want to have a conversation? I’m happy to do so. Any time, any place. We can even do it here, live on X if you like. I’ve got nothing to hide. But, guy, you need to grow up. You are not a victim.”

In his interview on The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast, Pearce said that hearing about other allegations of inappropriate behaviour from Spacey in recent years had made him revisit his experiences working with the actor back in the 90s.

“I was in London working on something, and I heard [the reports] and I broke down and sobbed, and I couldn’t stop,” he revealed.

“I think it really dawned on me the impact that had occurred and how I sort of brushed it off and how I had either shelved it or blocked it out or whatever. That was a really incredible wake up call.”
