Hugh Jackman is reportedly the latest celebrity to become embroiled in the messy legal battle between Blake Lively and her It Ends with Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni.
The Aussie actor starred in Deadpool & Wolverine with Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, with the 2024 film being released just a couple of weeks before It Ends with Us.
With the films both on the promotional trail at the time, Lively helped promote the superhero movie, walking the premiere with Reynolds and Jackman in July last year, and both actors were also by Lively’s side at her film’s New York premiere the following month.
Given the trio’s close friendship, it appears Jackman “will be deposed” as he plays a “crucial” role in the upcoming trial between Lively and Baldoni, scheduled for March 2026. Depositions are part of the pre-trial process, where witnesses are questioned under oath.
“Baldoni’s legal team is doing everything they need to do to get a full scope of Ryan’s conduct during the time that It Ends with Us was filmed,” a source told the Daily Mail.
“As Ryan’s good friend, who starred in the film and was with Blake and Ryan many times in private during that time, [Jackman’s] deposition will likely be crucial. They are not going to leave any stone unturned.”
Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni in late December for sexual harassment and retaliation. The following month Baldoni filed his own lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds for a whopping $US400 million ($636 million), suing them for defamation.
Both parties have vehemently denied the other’s claims.
Baldoni’s legal team have also asked Marvel president Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger to preserve any documents regarding the character of Nicepool, who is introduced in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie.
The Baldoni camp believe that this character may be based on the actor, and therefore would like to see any documents “relating to or reflecting a deliberate attempt to mock, harass, ridicule, intimidate, or bully Baldoni through the character of ‘Nicepool.’”
While the public have had a front-row seat to the messy dispute between Lively and Baldoni in the past year, it appears that may no longer be the case after a federal judge granted the actress her request to limit the disclosure of certain sensitive information.
On Thursday, Judge Lewis Liman granted Lively’s request to limit certain material to “attorneys eyes only”. The actress’ team argued that the case involves celebrities and their publicists, therefore sensitive information should be kept confidential.
Indeed, another big name dragged into the legal mess is Lively’s long-time friend Taylor Swift, who the actress referred to as one of her “dragons” in an email to Baldoni about her vision for their movie.
“If you ever get around to watching Game of Thrones, you’ll appreciate that I’m Khaleesi, and like her, I happen to have a few dragons,” read Lively’s text to Baldoni.
“For better or worse, but usually better. Because my dragons also protect those I fight for. So really we all benefit from those gorgeous monsters of mine. You will too, I can promise you.”
According to Page Six, Swift “can’t help but feel used” by her friend and is now “taking a break from their friendship”.
“Taylor is really hurt by this whole situation and feels like a pawn,” the source said.
“Taylor wants nothing to do with this whole ordeal. She has always been a loyal friend to Blake and doesn’t appreciate being thrown into this at all.”
