TIM Burton and Helena Bonham Carter have ended their 13 year relationship.
The couple “separated amicably earlier this year and have continued to be friends and co-parent their children,” a representative for Carter told People magazine.
“We would ask that you respect their privacy and that of their children during this time.”
The 56-year old director and 48-year-old actress never married, and the famously unconventional couple lived in separate, neighbouring houses.
The pair met in 2001 when Burton directed Carter in Planet of the Apes.
They have since worked together on movies including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows.
News of the split comes more than a year after Burton was photographed leaving a cinema with another woman in London, sparking rumours of infidelity.
At the time, Carter rejected allegations that he had been unfaithful as “nonsense.”
The couple have two children together: son Billy, 11, and daughter Nell, 7.
