Pete Doherty has opened up about what eventually turned him off his high-profile, tumultuous relationship with Kate Moss in the mid-2000s.

The 44-year-old rocker sat down with Louis Theroux on Wednesday night in a raw interview, which aired on the UK’s BBC Two, reports The Sun.

Doherty dated supermodel Moss between 2005 and 2007 after meeting at her 31st birthday party.

He told Theroux that he’d recently seen her in a Coca-Cola TV commercial, and it reminded him of why he’d gone cold on her back then.

“Coca Cola. That’s what she’d say in the morning, to her assistant, and then I learnt Donald Trump does the same thing and it put me off a bit,” Doherty explained.

“What, drinking Coke?” asked Louis.

“Well, ordering it from her assistant all the time,” he told him.

During the interview, Doherty also broke down while reliving the heartbreaking moment he was “kicked out” of The Libertines.

The singer recalled his “honeymoon period with crack and heroin” which led to him being “kicked out” of the band.

Pete explained how he broke into bandmate Carl Barât’s flat in a desperate bid to stay in The Libertines, but he wasn’t at home.

In the latest documentary, Doherty told Theroux: “They were doing these gigs without me, they did Glastonbury without me and I went round [to his home] to beg him to say ‘I know you are worried about the drugs but please don’t carry on without me’.”

He added: “I acted really stupidly and took some videos and stuff.”

Barât described how Doherty’s spiralling addiction meant he couldn’t keep up with the band’s schedule and commitments.

“People kept saying to me, your friend is going off the rails, he needs help, ‘You can’t let him do this’ ‘You can’t let him do that’ but you’ve seen the man, he’s a law unto himself,” he explained.

“But I knew I had to keep the band together and I knew we had these commitments, and Pete was running round with this new crew and I felt like he was getting away from me.

“I felt like I was breaking our bond, our pack, everything we had sworn in blood together and although Pete says he got kicked out the band that was never the case, but of course he didn’t see it that way.

“It was quite heartbreaking really both romantics and there’s just f*** you can do about it really.”

The pair, who have since mended their relationship, embraced each other during the episode when Doherty became emotional.

Through successive stints in rehab, Doherty was able to conquer his $380-a-day addiction to heroin and crack and has reportedly been clean for three years.

In September, he was pictured on an outing with his baby daughter Billie-May, who he shares with his wife, Katia de Vidas.

He has an older son and daughter from two other women.

The setting for the interview with Theroux was at the musician’s home in France, where he has settled down with his family.

Doherty moved there around 2020 to escape the vices of his former days, swapping it with the peaceful bucolic lifestyle of Normandy.

However, the quintessential French region is littered with irresistible fromargeries and is where the rock star famously “swapped crack for Camembert”.

Despite having turned his life around, the musician admitted to Theroux that his years of drug abuse had left a permanent mark on his body.

“How’s your health in general?” Theroux asked, prompting Doherty to respond that he’s a “very sick man”.

“I’ve battered it, haven’t I, I’ve f**king caned it,” he told the presenter.

“[The] heroin and the crack … I surrendered to that, and then it was cocaine and the smoking and the alcohol, and now it’s cheese and the saucisson, and the sugar in the tea.”

He went on: “It’s all gotta go. They told me a little while ago if you don’t change your diet then you’re gonna have diabetes and cholesterol problems.

“Death’s lurking, you know what I mean?”
