They starred in one of the biggest franchises ever and were in a relationship for almost a decade – but barely anyone even knew.

Two of the stars of Harry Potter were embroiled in a secret relationship for almost a decade without anyone seeming to notice.

Evanna Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood, and Robbie Jarvis, known as the young James Potter, were together until 2016, it’s been revealed.

The young actors first met in 2007 after being cast in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and soon fell in love.

The couple’s long-term relationship was largely low-key, with Lynch finally taking to Instagram with a picture of her boyfriend in May 2015, wishing him “happy birthday” in the caption.

The stars split in early 2016, according to the UK’s Mirror, and around the same time, Lynch posted a sad quote by poet Rupi Kaur on Instagram, reading: “You mustn’t have to/make him want you/he must want you himself.”

It was captioned with a broken-heart emoji.

Shortly afterwards, Lynch shared some of her own poetry, writing alongside it: “Still in a sad place. Arting it out.”

The actress is now in a relationship with an unidentified French man.

“We met in London,” she told Irish presenter Miriam O’Callaghan in 2022. “He’s quiet. But he’s meeting the whole family this weekend.”

Meanwhile, Jarvis – who appeared in only one Harry Potter film – appears to be in a new relationship with professional basketball player Zoe Fleck.

News of the Harry Potter stars’ secret romance comes just months after the magical series’ TV reboot was confirmed by Warner Bros Discovery.

The live-action series will be based on all seven of JK Rowling’s books, published between 1997 and 2007.

A statement from streaming service Max detailed how it will become a “decade-long series produced with the same epic craft, love and care this global franchise is known for”.

“The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years,” the statement went on.

“Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”

Rowling has also been revealed as an executive producer of the series, with reports David Heyman – who executive-produced all eight of the Harry Potter films – is also in talks to return.
