Clues we all missed in Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher’s split

Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher’s divorce announcement shocked many - but looking back, there were signs they’d split some time ago.

Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher stunned the showbiz world when they announced they were divorcing after 14 years of marriage.

But the clues to the secret split were hiding in plain sight.

The couple shared the news about their sad separation in a joint post.

The pair, who share three kids aged 17, 13, and nine, posted a shot of them in tennis gear cuddling.

In their caption, they revealed they had secretly split last year.

The statement read: “After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down.

“In 2023, we jointly filed to end our marriage.”

“We have always prioritised our privacy, and have been working through this change,” the post continued.

“We forever share in our devotion and love for our children.”

“We sincerely appreciate you respecting our families’ wish for privacy,” the caption concluded.

As Hollywood reels in shock from news of the separation, we look at the signs hinted all was not well in the marriage …

Radio Silence

Recently Rebel Wilson caused shockwaves when she revealed that her memoir, Rebel Rising, detailed an uncomfortable encounter working with an “a**hole actor.”

While she initially declined to name the man, she later came out and exposed him as Sacha – and revealed he was taking legal action against her.

Rebel alleges she had an awful time making Grimsby with Sacha.

She explained on instagram: “I wrote about an a**hole in my book. Now said a**hole is trying to threaten me. He’s hired a crisis PR [public relations] manager and lawyers.”

“He is trying to stop the book from coming out,” the caption continued.

“But the book will come out, and you will know the truth. The “a**hole that I am talking about in one chapter of my book is: Sacha Baron Cohen.

While Sacha strenuously denied the claims, Isla maintained a radio silence on them.

She has posted on Instagram, but has not mentioned Rebel’s book once or commented on the claims against Sacha.

Hanging with the girls

Isla's spending more time with her girlfriends.

While Isla hasn’t mentioned anything about her estranged husband’s recent scandal, instead she has been following that classic post break-up move of spending more time with her girlfriends.

Back in January, she hung out with pal Rosamund Pike, despite saying in her caption that she was “only in LA for one night.”

And a few nights ago, Isla beamed in an Instagram post with a group of female friends.

They included Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery, fellow Aussie Naomi Watts and film producer Bruna Papandrea.

Isla captioned the snap: “Girls night at the theatre” alongside a love heart emoji.

Hidden ring finger

She's hidden her ring finger in posts like these.

No fans noticed at the time, but in many Instagram shots from this year, Isla has hidden her right hand so her wedding finger was not visible in many shots.

It’s unclear whether she had removed the ring from the snaps that were uploaded.

In several shots, the former Home and Away actress puts her hand in her dress, hiding it from the lens.

In others, it is on her hip and turned at an angle that makes the ring finger not visible.

There are also several images with her hands in her pockets.

… but they haven’t been seen together since this pic in November 2023.

Although Isla and Sacha have never been very public with their relationship, they have shared images of each other on social media.

It’s telling, however, that the last image Isla shared of her and Sacha prior to the divorce announcement was back in November last year.

At the time, she posted a pic of her and her hubby enjoying a date night holding bottles of beer.

The snap was captioned: “Off screen date & on screen date.”

In several bittersweet comments, fans commented on how cute they looked together.

“Adorbs,” one wrote.

“Beautiful couple,” added a second.

Social media absence

Interestingly, Sacha has been absent from Instagram since last Christmas.

While it’s unclear exactly when he and Isla parted ways in 2023, he stopped posting on his grid around the holiday season.

As for his last picture of Isla, she last appeared on his social media in February 2023.

On her birthday, he posted a posed shot of her holding a pint of beer with the caption: “Isla looking at me and thinking “ten more of these and I may find him a tiny bit attractive”. Happy Birthday my darling.”
