ONE of Australia’s most dynamic golden media couples have announced their separation.
Renowned for being one of the most genuine (and genetically blessed) pairs in the entertainment industry, TV presenter Sophie Falkiner and Nova radio executive Tony Thomas were together for 16 years and were married for 14 years.
The split has come as a shock to those around the couple, with those kind of years together akin to a lifetime in the entertainment business.
“With a heavy heart, CHIC Talent Management client Sophie Falkiner and radio executive Tony Thomas have announced their separation,” the pair said in an exclusive statement to news.com.au.
“The high profile couple have enjoyed a long and happy 14 years of marriage, but both feel that journey has now reached its end.
“As a former presenter on The Great Outdoors and Wheel of Fortune, Sophie is one of Australia’s most recognisable faces. She will continue to be represented by CHIC Talent Management. Tony will continue his management role at Nova Entertainment.
“The couple are now focused on their two young children and they thank close family and friends for all of the support and kindness in recent times.
“They have asked that their privacy be respected as they work their way through this difficult period.
“There will be no further comments regarding their separation.”
Sophie was always the go-to girl when she filled in for Kerri-Anne Kennerley when KAK had her morning show on the Nine Network.
Tony is a well-regarded media marketing executive at Nova, whose recent successes include having taking smoothfm to being the leading radio station in Australia.
Sophie first made her mark as a model — and continues to be an ambassador for various fashion labels and healthy lifestyle brands — and seamlessly segued into TV presenting.
While modelling and being a mum, Sophie completed a Bachelor of Media Studies at Macquarie University majoring in journalism.
In addition to hosting the show Sydney Weekender Sophie also hosted the Crown Australian Celebrity Poker Challenge on Foxtel and worked as a research assistant on Today Tonight.
Just last week, Sophie was enjoying the Spring Racing Carnival with some her girlfriends, having spent Melbourne Cup day in Sydney at the Centennial Hotel and was in Melbourne for the running of the Derby the Saturday before, also making it onto Derby Day’s ‘best dressed’ lists.
During the last school holidays, the couple enjoyed a holiday break in Los Angeles and Hawaii with their two children, daughter Isabella, 10, and Jack, who is six.
The pair will continue on with their respective and burgeoning career paths with their children their absolute first priority.
