A look back at newly engaged Delta Goodrem’s famous exes

From boy band singers to athletes, singer Delta Goodrem has had to kiss a lot of “duds” before finding love with fiancé Matthew Copley.

Delta Goodrem is one of Australia’s most successful singers, captivating fans throughout her stellar career.

But the beloved star has also won the hearts of a string of men, with her relationships from athletes to boy-band members making headlines through the years.

And the former Neighbours star is the first to admit she’s had to kiss a few frogs to finally find her Prince Charming in musician Matthew Copley.

“I mean, in front of the whole country, I’ve had a few duds,” she previously revealed when coaching one contestant on the singing competition The Voice back in 2015.

Matthew Copley and Delta Goodrem are engaged after six years of dating.

Now she is loved-up with Copley, with the happy couple announcing their engagement on social media on Thursday evening.

Let’s take a look back at Goodrem’s dating history that took her from flings to finding her forever.

Blair McDonough

Goodrem was linked to former Big Brother contestant Blair McDonough back in 2003.

After his stint on the reality TV show, he appeared on Neighbours, where they reportedly began their relationship.

But as Goodrem was promoting her debut album Innocent Eyes in LA later that year, a wayward voicemail from McDonough spelled the end of their relationship.

“When I woke up there was a missed call from him,” Goodrem told the Daily Telegraph in 2013.

“So I listened to the voicemail and it was clearly not for me, it was for someone else. He was saying, ‘Hey, come and meet me’ and he was in Brisbane and I was in LA. And because of the time difference I couldn’t get a hold of him.”

Her heartbreak was the inspiration for two of her number-one hits: Predictable and Not Me, Not I – both songs hinting at infidelity.

Mark Philippoussis

Goodrem dated Aussie tennis star Mark Philippoussis for nine months before their 2004 split, but the pair got serious fast.

They became Australia’s darling couple, with Goodrem often seen supporting her man from the grandstands during tournaments.

It was during their relationship that she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma aged just 18 and it was Philippoussis who became her rock throughout her battle.

The pair split later that year amid rumours he dumped her for American hotel heiress Paris Hilton – rumours he quickly rubbished, insisting they split because of their careers.

“Delta and I had something special and unfortunately it didn’t work out and now it’s just making everything feel like it’s all rubbish, and it’s tough,” he told 2GB radio’s Alan Jones after the break-up.

“We realised things were tough,” Philippoussis said. “We’re both young, she’s just starting her career. She’s going to get bigger and bigger and I need to get my career back on track and it’s a decision we both came up with.”

Brian McFadden

Goodrem began dating former Westlife singer Brian McFadden after her split from Philippoussis – and it iwas arguably her most public relationship to date.

The pair – who collaborated on the hiy single Almost Here – dated for seven years and even got engaged during that time.

Their relationship was not without controversy as when they first started dating, the Irish singer had only just broken up with his wife and mother of their two children, Kerry Katona, who was much loved in the UK for being in the girl group Atomic Kitten.

Many fans believed there may have an overlap between end of his marriage and his relationship with Goodrem, who was painted as a “homewrecker” in the UK tabloids.

They split in 2011 and released this joint statement: “This decision has been made with a lot of soul searching from both parties with the realisation that they have grown apart.”

In a later interview with Vogue, Goodrem touched on their doomed romance.

“There is so much I’d like to say. I was really unhappy and I didn’t know how to get out. I learnt. I got there in the end,” she said.

Nick Jonas

In a romance no one could have predicted, Goodrem went on to date Nick Jonas from the US boy band the Jonas Brothers in 2011.

Eyebrows were raised when they were first linked, as there was an eight-year age gap between the pair - Nick was just 19 at the time.

But that didn’t stop them from going on a romantic holiday to Bali just one month after they were first linked.

“I have been so blessed. So many great things happening,” Jonas tweeted at the time from the tropical island.

However, their relationship lasted just 10 months before they called it quits in early 2012.

Darren McMullen

When Goodrem joined the launch season of The Voice Australia in 2012, it was rumoured she had a fling with the show’s host, Darren McMullen.

The pair were spotted on numerous occasions kissing and holding hands, but they did not confirm nor deny reports at the time.

It wasn’t until an interview with Sunday Lifemagazine in 2016 that McMullen admitted they had a romance of sorts and they “liked each other and hung out”, but they were never in a “confirmed relationship”.

Drew Mitchell

Goodrem dated ex-Wallabies players Drew Mitchell briefly in 2016, from August to December that year.

The former rugby union star played for the Queensland Reds, Western Force and played for the New South Wales Waratahs during his career.

At the time of their split, Woman’s Day magazine claimed the singer dumped the footballer over the phone as he was “not her speed”.

The pair were believed to be dating in 2016, but in December that same year, Woman’s Day said they had split after Goodrem dumped him over the phone

A source claimed to the publication that he was simply “not her speed” and her work schedule was too intense to sustain a relationship.

Matthew Copley

Goodrem is now happily dating musician Matthew Copley and the pair are engaged to be married.

Since meeting in 2017 – he is her guitarist and they met each other through music – she has purposely kept their relationship close to her heart.

“I made a conscious decision when I was 30 that I’m not somebody who wants to talk about relationships,” she told InStyle Australiain 2018.

“I made a [choice] that I’m not even going to comment ‘yes’ or ‘no’ … I’ve said nothing for three or four years — all I’ve kept saying is ‘I’m single and I’ll let you know when I’m in a serious relationship.’ And I will.”

True to her word, on September 21, Goodrem was the one to announce that she and Copley are engaged after he proposed during their holiday in Malta.

“My best friend asked me to marry him,” she captioned a photo and video of the moment on Instagram.
