‘Gorgeous’ woman says she is ‘too hot to date’ and intimidates men

A US woman stunned social media by claiming she is “too hot” to get a date because men are intimidated by her. But not all was as it seemed.

You may think that good looks would help in securing a romantic partner. But one US woman has said she’s just too sexy to find a man, claiming they are “intimidated” by her beauty.

Californian influencer Hope Schwing, 24, described the hardships of being “gorgeous” in a video on TikTok, which has had over 3.7 million views, New York Post reports.

“Being incredibly hot is honestly a curse,” wrote the self-proclaimed “chronically single” LA native. “No one talks about how hard it is to be literally so hot that you can’t get a boyfriend because all men are extremely scared and intimidated by you.”

But not all in the clip was as it first appeared. Before commenters could cast shade on the influencer, it turned out her video was posted sarcastically.

“The video stating I’m ‘too intimidating and hot’ – I don’t actually mean that,” explained the comedian, who boasts a whopping 9.9 million followers on the platform. “I just notice a trend among women saying these things to explain why they’re single.”

The piece of satire comes as a growing number of models and social media influencers claim they’re being punished for being “too beautiful,” resulting in them repeatedly getting rejected from dating apps amid accusations of catfishing.

Recently, Tahlia Paris, a 24-year-old Playboy model, claimed that dating app Bumble removed her profile despite the fact that her photos allegedly didn’t violate any rules.

Indeed, while Ms Schwing uploaded the video in jest, not everyone ‘got’ the joke, with many viewers lamenting over the hardships of hotness.

“The way you said this was satire but it’s not … like I literally feel like this is true for me,” wrote one TikTok commenter.

“This isn’t satire; it’s relatable,” said another, while one viewer wrote, “You’re absolutely right.”

“I thought it was pretty obvious in my video it was satire and me being existential and dramatic, but clearly that wasn’t delivered,” Ms Schwing said.

Fortunately, other commenters picked up on the tongue-in-cheek tone with one writing, “It’s a blessing and a curse, babe.”

“I’m gonna believe this is true about myself because any other explanation will be my last straw,” one person said.

“Convincing myself this is why I’m single,” wrote another.

Ms Schwing empathised.

“It’s a more empowering – possibly false – way of hyping ourselves up and making light of being chronically single,” she said. “I’ve personally been told and heard women give reason that they’re single because ‘the guy wants to be the hot one’ or ‘I’m too hot, I’m intimidating him and scaring him away’ – just funny satirical stuff like that.”

Despite constantly joking about how she hates flying solo, Ms Schwing claims she’s comfortable with being single for the foreseeable future.

“Being I’ve been independent my whole life, I’m used to being single,” she said. “I don’t have a ton of experience dating because I don’t really have an urgency to date.

“I’m a busy gal and I think when it’s time for me to date, it’ll come to me. I don’t think I’ll be the one chasing it.”

Of course, not every influencer’s claims about being “too beautiful” are made sarcastically.

In November, a TikToker was slammed online after declaring herself “too pretty” to bother with a job.
